D.O.W. Steel Beasts Sunday Mission 08/03/20 @ GMT18:00

This scenario is a simulation and does not have any political message.

4th Dragoons at As-Salman by Maj. Hans

Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for the 6th French Light Division, 4th Dragoons:

1) SITUATION: February 25th, 1991, the western desert of Iraq
   a) Enemy:
Objective CHAMBORD: The town of As-Salman
Elements of the Iraqi 45th Infantry Division.  Approximately a dozen AFVs, mostly T-55s or Chinese copies, and a large unit of truck mobile infantry.
These guys are poorly trained, poorly equipped, have been under constant bombardment, are undersupplied and cut off.
If you're lucky they'll just give up like all the other Iraqis we ran into so far.

Objective TOULOUSE: Crossroads north of As-Salman
No enemy units are known to be securing this objective.  Seize these crossroads on your way to Objective White.

   Objective WHITE: As-Salman Airbase
Elements of the Iraqi 45th Infantry Division, plus local airbase security personnell.
Coalition air units have been bombing the hell out of this place, but the possibility exists that the Iraqis may still have helicopter support.

   b) Own:
Elements of the 6th French Light Division and 4th Dragoons:
1st Squadron, 4th RD : 3 platoons of AMX-30B2 tanks, one platoon VAB APCs, and a scouting platoon of Peugeot P4.

2nd Squadron, 1st Spahis, is currently swinging wide through the swaths of open desert on your left flank.  They intend to meet up with you to take Objective White in a pincer attack.

1st Company, 3rd RIMa will secure sucessively Objective CHAMBORD, TOULOUSE and WHITE.

   c) Attachments and detachments: Three batteries of 155mm howitzers are waiting to provide support, as are a flight of A-10s.

   d) Weather: There's some morning fog, but it's burning off with sunrise.  Visability will probably open up to around 2000 meters later in the day, limited by some blowing sand.  The storms are worse further south.

2) MISSION:
Seize control of Objective CHAMBORD.  The Iraqi forces in the town appear to be mostly oriented facing south.

Seize control of Objective TOULOUSE.  These crossroads are throught to be undefended.

Seize control of Objective WHITE.  Destroy any aviation assets on the base ASAP.  Eliminate resistance from security forces.  Establish a perimeter.

3) EXECUTION:
"DRAGON" is to move north to the road, and attack down the road leading in to the town of As-Salman, Objective CHAMBORD.
A supporting unit of wheeled tanks and PCs from RICM and 3RiMa will join your attack when you approach the town.  They will attack along the road leading in from the south, and then hold the town.
Our intelligence suggests that the Iraqi units holding the town are oriented more to defend against attacks from the south and east, so hopefully you attack will come by surprise.

After securing Objective CHAMBORD, move north to the crossroads.  Clear out any enemy resistance you encounter.
A follow up unit will arrive and hold the crossroads.  You do not need to wait for them to arrive before you continue.

"MESSAOUD"  is executing a flanking manuver through the desert to the north west.  They should be in place to coordinate an attack on the airbase with you by the time you take the crossroads.
In combination with "MESSAOUD", eliminate the perimeter security present on the airbase.  Destroy any and all vehicles and aviation assets present.

"MARSOUINS" will follow to clear the base.

With any luck, the Iraqi forces holding the base won't insist on fighting to the last man.

When you have secured all three objectives, your mission is complete.

Today As-Salman, tomorrow BAGHDAD!......If we can get the UN to let us take it that far.

4) COMMAND AND SIGNALS:
Set Trigger 1 to enable stabilization on the AMX-30B2s.  This is not historically correct, but some users may prefer it.  Set this trigger *BEFORE* you start the mission.
