Character models evolution in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg

Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg vs Panzer Strategy

This is Erwin Rommel in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg

Panzer Strategy is the first game of Starni Games on Steam and was released in August 2018. We have come a long way since then and now is the time to look back, even if only for a second.

This was Erwin Rommel in Panzer Strategy

Today, we will compare the old models with their modern counterparts. The final judgment is up to you. Let us know in the comments below.

This is Erich von Manstein in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg

And this was Erich von Manstein in Panzer Strategy

Today we are comparing the models. However, it is but an example of the numerous changes we made in cinematic production: new animation technologies, the addition of photo scans for our outdoor locations, and much more.

This is Adolf Hitler in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg

And this was Adolf Hitler in Panzer Strategy

We work hard to improve the quality of all aspects of the game.

Moreover, Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg features totally new characters, such as Hermann Goering, Karl Doenitz, and Wilhelm Canaris.

For all of you who wonder when the release date will become available, we have good news. Next week we will finally announce the release date for Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg and, yes, it will be in Spring 2020. So stay tuned, not to miss the announcement.

Release date 22 May 2020
Tue, 5 May 2020

Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg release date reveal

We are proud to announce that Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg will be released on the 22 May 2020. Thus we are about to fulfill our promise to deliver the game in Spring 2020. Our team is working very hard to deliver you the best game we can, so now we are proudly present you with the results of our efforts.

Here you can find the cinematic trailer offering you a glimpse of the in-game cinematics (with subtitles for all supported languages):

We hope that the trailer will help you pass the time before release. Please, let us know what you think of it in the comments. If you like the trailer - please, share it with your friends. We will greatly appreciate all sorts of help!

Important note for the Strategic Mind: The Pacific players!
As we have stated before, we plan to transfer many new mechanics and UI improvements from Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg into the Strategic Mind: The Pacific. However, that process will take some time, as we will have to make sure all the new features work well within the Pacific setting. So, after the Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg release we will get down to work and after some time make a major update bringing Strategic Mind: The Pacific up to date with the Blitzkrieg.

Stay tuned for more information about new content and features.

Players feedback inspired features in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg
Wed, May 13, 2020

Units naming, a new set of controls, hex grid off hotkey, and other features.

Since the Panzer Strategy release in 2018, we were gathering lots of valuable feedback from the players. Some things we could implement fast, for others we had to do extensive preliminary work. Thus, we always note what the players ask for and try to implement it as soon as we have the opportunity.

Strategic Mind: The Pacific development allowed us to implement many (but not all) of the community suggestions both from Panzer Strategy and from The Pacific early access period. Among the new features, added due to your feedback were:
Detailed combat prediction window
Many hints, explanations, and Manual (far from perfect, but a good start)
Terrain and infrastructure info
Naval combat tutorial
Further camera zoom option.
Units speech, zoom-in on unit renders, and others.

However, there were still more things that we wanted to implement but they required more time and preparations. So, we got some of them ready for the Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg release, namely:
You can now rename your units with custom names. (and the save files)
You can two choose between two sets of Controls: Modern (new) and Legacy (old).
Modern (Unit selection - Left mouse button, Attack/Movement - Right mouse button, Open unit info screen - Middle mouse button (or I hotkey, or left-click on corresponding UI button))
Legacy (Unit selection - Left mouse button, Attack/Movement - Left mouse button, Open unit info screen - Right mouse button (or I hotkey, or left-click on corresponding UI button))
Added detailed 5-part tutorial for land operations
UI polish and improvements
Added calendar button indication Day/Night cycle
You can turn on/off the hex grid not only in the Settings but also with the H hotkey.
Added a separate setting for unit speech volume.
Improved Manual UI (We will keep improving it further in the future)

All these features were brought by a combination of you being interested in our games, actively sending us lots of feedback and great suggestions, and by our willingness to listen to the community and improve our games together. We will keep adding new features and polishing the existing ones.

There are still many features that we want to add, but up to now lacked the time and resources to implement. The top two things on our “to-do” list right now are the integration of Steam cloud saves and Steam achievements. No ETA on these, but we will surely add them as soon as we can.

New class in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg
Sat, May 16, 2020

Armored train

Yet another class is added to Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg. Previously, we told you about the Sturm Artillery as a separate class with its own unique features. Now, we will tell you more about another new class of player-controlled units - armored trains.

The armored train is basically a mixture of an artillery unit and a highly mobile armored vehicle. It is very powerful as it combines a long firing range of artillery units and their firepower with tank’s mobility and armor. However, it has a huge downside as well, as it can move only by rail. Thus, despite having the highest number of Move points among all ground units, it cannot reach certain locations on the map, or can even be totally out of commission for some operations.

The armored train is somewhat similar to naval units, as it also has several parts: Hull, Main gun, Engine with their respective HP. Some models also have AA guns. It also has a Maintenance unit and Emergency repair. Additionally, all its move points are added to its defense, but if its Engine is damaged it loses all move points, thus becoming an easy target for the enemy troops.

You can capture one Armored train in Poland, and one later on in USSR. Additionally, you can acquire one for prestige after Poland, and one more before the Barbarossa operation. Thus, you can have up to 4 armored trains under your command in the later part of the campaign.

We hope that you will like the idea of employing armored trains in your army as much as we do. Let us know what you think of this new addition in the comments below.

The release date is very close so, do not forget to wishlist Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg to show us your interest in the project and not miss the release date. Stay tuned for more information about new content and game development progress.

Steam Cloud saves added in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg and other news
Tue, 19 May 2020

In one of the recent news updates, we told that our top priorities were to add the Steam Cloud integration and Steam achievements. We made the first step and today we are happy to inform you that Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg will support Steam Cloud allowing you to store save files in it, so you won’t lose them in case of force majeure and can easily transfer them between the devices. It might not look like a huge addition, but it is an important quality of life improvement (It will soon be added to Strategic Mind: The Pacific as well). Our next goal is to add Steam achievements, but there is no ETA at the moment. Let us know in the comments what other features should be our top priority in your opinion.

•   Better narrative integration (eg. objectives to deal with enemy heroes)
•   More detailed tutorials

Game mechanics:

•   Refined the existing set of core mechanics
•   Added two new player-controlled classes of units with their respective skill sets. (Assault guns and Armored trains)
•   Added new skills and equipment
•   Added more weather effects
•   More HQ skills (including V-1 Flying bomb)

Graphics:

•   New visuals close in style to The Pacific but adjusted for the European theatre of operations
•   New unit models
•   More visual changes tied to day/night cycle (Light in the houses, searchlights, etc)

Cinematics:

•   Improved motion capture technology and pipeline
•   Outdoor scenes created with photo scans usage
•   Improved character models

User interface:

•   Full revamp of the UI
•   A new set of controls and other new game settings

Many of these changes will be retrospectively added into Strategic Mind: The Pacific with the upcoming update.

The release date for Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg is 22 May 2020 at 12.00 PM PDT (21.00 CEST). We look forward to seeing you in-game and on our Community hub.

Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg has begun! And update for The Pacific on the horizon
Fri, 22 May 2020

Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg release date is upon us. Strategic Mind: The Pacific update is close as well
The second Strategic Mind series installment is upon us, so we would like to treat you all with one of our cinematics:

In this video, we present part of the in-game cinematic after the victory in the Battle of Moscow. Do not worry that this might be the ending spoiler - as this happens after the 15th operation out of 20. So, you have 5 more battles and 25-30% of all content still ahead of you. Our campaign has 20 operations, 16 historical, and 4 alternate history (including Sea Lion and Herkules). However, in some of the 16 historical ones you can get a better outcome.

Our whole team at Starni Games and all the people involved in the Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg development have worked very hard to deliver you the best game we can. Now the time has come for you to evaluate our work. Let us know what is well-done and what needs to be further improved. Your feedback has always been the main source of our inspiration and our performance benchmark. We want to further develop and improve the game - so, please, join us at the community hub and let us discuss what we all have and what we all want.

As for Strategic Mind: The Pacific - we will bring it up to date with the majority of new features within a reasonable time, so stay tuned for further announcements.

If you are curious to play the Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg - we welcome you!

Update 1.09
Sun, June 7, 2020

Summary of the updates delivered over the last 2 days

Update 1.09

Patch notes:
- Fixed the previous update mistake (with random generation set to 0 and incorrect lethal-nonlethal damage distribution) We are sorry for our mistake. We plan to add the randomness setting in the future. (Huge thanks to "jurand36" for noticing the problem and pointing that out to us)
- Fixed crash on Crete secondary objective (about civilians). However, there are still some issues remaining with that objective: air recon triggers civilians to become conscripts (should be only land units) and autosave missing this objective. We are working on these issues and will fix them in the upcoming updates. (Reported by: "dragoon2008", "Legatus", "polinich-il")
- Rebalanced Crete: reduced the number of noncore aircraft units, but it now has a higher level and overstrength.
- Fixed "Esc" button not skipping cinematics and character speech in Headquarters.
- Fixed "tick" sings on Heroes ready for assignment sometimes disappearing.
- Changed Victory points cost of "Heavy air transport" ability from 300 to 400 points.
- Changed trophy tank on Leningrad from KV-1 to KV-2 (as was originally intended). (Reported by "Doctrine")
- Changed enemy forces flags in the 20th operation.
- Stalingrad operation: 1) fixed unit counters in some secondary objectives; 2) Soviet Command posts now summon Conscripts instead of Regulars; 3) fixed pointers.
- 20th operation: 1) added SS-troops; 2) changed civilians' behavior; 3) changed Tiger to Koenigstiger in secondary objective; 4) fixed pointers.
- Kursk operation: 1) fixed secondary objectives giving only 95 points (instead of 100); 2) added pointers.
- 19th operation: added pointers.

We are aware of the current issue with the 3rd tutorial and are working on fixing this new issue.
Apart from fixes and polishing, we plan to make a bit bigger update next week, which will also add a bit of new stuff (equipment etc.) Also, we look closely at all the feedback from you guys and will do our best to implement the best suggestions at some point.
On a side note, there was a request for us post the full list of scenarios, so we will post that tomorrow.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all players who actively offer us all sorts of invaluable feedback. We encourage you to keep doing so. Together we can make an even better game.

We look forward to both reading more feedback from you guys on our Community hub and adding more polish to the game. See you soon!

Update 1.10
Tue, June 9, 2020

A number of important fixes and additional polishing

Patch notes:

- Fixed the crash when using the V-1 Flying bomb with the HQ skill. (Reported by [PBS]mmtt and others)
- Fixed the 3rd tutorial not working properly. (Reported by: "MatthewT")
- Fixed: now you cannot discard the equipment if the unit have already attacked this turn (instead of not being able to acquire). (Reported by: "MatthewT")
- Fixed crash when finishing the Tobruk operation (Reported by "Jurand36")
- Fixed Air recon triggering civilians on Crete to become Conscripts (and failing secondary objective). Now only ground unit's presence can turn them into Conscripts. (You have to attack civilians in close combat to disarm them peacefully, before they had time to take arms)
- Fixed towed artillery not having Sluggish (negative) skill. (It gives the unit attacking it in close combat First strike) So, now tanks of Infantry attacking Artillery from the adjacent hex will have an advantage. At the same time, your Artillery will also become more vulnerable to enemy attacks. (Note that the unit acquired before the update will not have this skill until the end of the campaign. Enemy units will have it only when you start the new operation) (Reported by: "Doctrine")
- In Battle for Moscow operation: Changed USSR Regular units posted around Kremlin into Guards units.
- Stalingrad operation: 1) Fixed Conscripts not crossing the river. 2) Adjusted soviet airforce behavior. 3) Fixed one of the objective counters.
- Fixed all Armored trains and Assault guns not damaging infrastructure and not being able to attack Mines.
- Removed embarkation button for armored trains.
- Added series for recon units staring with Sd. kfz. 231 and up to Puma. So now Recon units are cheaper to upgrade.
- Removed the extra "Colonel" rank in the campaign (not operation) victory/loss screen.
- Fixed tanks defeating the enemy Forst in close combat getting Overrun only after a certain delay.
- Fixed not being able to disembark from air transport in a hex in which another aircraft was located (under the aircraft).
- Sea transport no longer has a Level tab.
- Fixed "tick" (got this hero) and "skull"(hero was killed) icons on Heroes tab not working properly.
- Fixed not getting + x prestige notification when destroying an enemy ship,
- Fixed Infantry having incorrect current move points count right after selling the ground transport.
- Fixed Wolfpack and Tank onslaught skills abuse: you could use it to attack with aircraft instead of tank/sub if you had both tank/sub and aircraft in one hex.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all players who actively offer us all sorts of invaluable feedback. We encourage you to keep doing so. Together we can make an even better game.

We look forward to both reading more feedback from you guys on our Community hub and adding more polish to the game. See you soon!

We were asked to list all the operations in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg, so here it comes

Hello guys,

Some of you have asked us for a full list of operations in Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg on our community hub.
So, here is the list. We did not want to spoil all the operation for those who want to find out the exact order of events for themselves. So, we think that the middle ground will be posting the operations (warning spoiler)

10.   Battle of Crete - May 1941
11.   Operation Herkules - June 1941
12.   Operation Barbarossa - June 1941
13.   Siege of Leningrad - August 1941
14.   The First Battle of Kiev - September 1941

Update 1.11
Thu, June 11, 2020

This update brings balance changes in several scenarios

Patch notes:

Balance changes:

- Increased the turn limit by 1 in the Battle of France
- Increased the turn limit by 1 in the Battle of Stalingrad
- Increased the turn limit by 3 in the 19th operation
- Changes in the Battle of Kursk scenario: 1) added non-core units 2) come changes to the railroads' system 3) some changes to the deployment hexes location 4) Allowable losses increased to 3000 (worth of units lost (both core and noncore)) 5) Enemy hero level decreased from 10th to 7th.
- Changes in The First Battle of Kiev scenario: 1) added Supply Hub for the northern army group 2) some changes to the roads in the north.
- Decreased the Gun range of Wurfrahmen and Nebelwerfer equipment from 4 to 3 hexes.
- Wurfrahmen and Nebelwerfer equipment now applies "Suppressive fire" skill to a unit, when activated, making all attacks deal mostly non-lethal damage. (As artillery would)

Fixes:

- Fixed crash in 19th operation, with "objects of art" secondary objective. (Reported by "反·装逼king" and others)
- Slight adjustments to the close combat mechanic. Now, it is not applied if the Attacker is towed (or stationary, like a fort) unit (artillery, anti-tank, anti-air), but still works for the same classes if the unit is self-propelled. (It was working the same way before but with few inaccuracies)
- Corrected all secondary objectives rewards (Victory points and Prestige) now they conform with the description.
- Fixed visual glitch: the tanks would sometimes "fly" or show other weird behavior when entering a player's vision from the "fog of war".

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all players who actively offer us all sorts of invaluable feedback. We encourage you to keep doing so. Together we can make an even better game.

We look forward to both reading more feedback from you guys on our Community hub and adding more polish to the game. See you soon!

Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg on YouTube ep. 3
Fri, June 12, 2020

This time we offer you to have a look at the Night Phoenix's playthrough

Hello guys,
In Strategic Mind: Blitzkrieg there are plenty of ways to carry out every operation. So, it is very interesting to see how other people cope with the same tasks. We, the developers, also watch these Youtube playthroughs to better understand how the players perceive the game, and what aspects of it are the most problematic, the most enjoyable, etc.
So, today, we offer you the beginning of Night Phoenix's playthrough. It is the only person on YouTube that we know of, who did the full playthrough (with English commentary on 100% difficulty) of Panzer Strategy and Strategic Mind: The Pacific (full Japanese campaign and half of the US campaign, still in progress). So, we think that it could be interesting for you to see the game through the eyes of the veteran of our games.

01 The Spanish Civil War 1938 operation:

Part 1

Part 2

While you enjoy these videos, we keep working on the next update, which we plan to deliver on Monday.
