Wolfpack
« on: March 25, 2019, 12:37:07 PM »

A crew of players experience the tense atmosphere of a WW2 U-boat, manning the stations in this realistic co-op simulation game. Several crews may play together in a wolfpack, completing missions based on iconic events during the different stages of german U-boat warfare between 1939 and 1945.

*Q: Is there a Single-Player option?

A: It is possible to launch the game alone. It is not impossible for a single player to man the U-boat at this point, but it is definitely not optimal since it requires a lot of running between the different stations.

"We have decided to put rudimentary bots at #1 on the To Do List since this feature gets requested reccurently. However, Wolfpack is designed for co-op, and we hope you give the multiplayer aspect a chance. Our Discord Server is full of friendly and very devoted people, so don't hesitate to join it."

Wolfpack Trailer 2

About

Wolfpack is a realistic, first person, co-op U-boat game where one or multiple crews of players man the stations of a highly detailed German type VII U-boat during the Second World War. The crew will encounter large randomized convoys of merchants escorted by destroyers, sloops, and corvettes. Their objective is to intercept and sink enemy ships and escape undetected.

Each player mans a station in the U-boat, and the crew will need to cooperate in order to succeed in their mission. Unlike other submarine simulators, Wolfpack is designed for players to procedurally manage the submarine through direct, manual interaction with valves, levers, and instruments.

Each U-boat has up to five players: The captain, the helmsman, the dive officer, the radio man, and the navigator.

•   The radio man operates the hydrophone, radio, radio direction finder, and Enigma machine.

•   The helmsman controls the U-boats heading and speed, and operates the torpedo data computer.

•   The dive officer controls the depth using the dive planes, ballast and negative tanks and serves as a lookout and gunner for the deck gun and anti aircraft gun.

•   The navigator calculates the position of the u-boat, and determines the best route to intercept enemy convoys.

•   The captain is the commander of the U-boat, and gives orders to the rest of the crew.

All stations and instruments in the U-boat are carefully modeled after original pictures and sources, and kept as realistic as possible without compromising usability. The game contains a fully operational torpedo data computer, manual navigation tools, and ship recognition manual.

Start Up of a WW2 Submarine Diesel Engine of a German U-Boat

Published on Jun 24, 2018
Start up of a 6-cylinder diesel engine. The submarine engine RS 34 S was used in the Type XXIII submarines. Originally, it was designed by MWM as a diesel generator for the battleships Bismarck and Tirpitz. The engine has 108 liters cylinder capacity (18 liters for each cylinder) and 576 hp at 850 revolutions per minute.

The engine is located in a museum in Kiel, Germany: http://www.maschinenmuseum-kiel-wik.de

These are the steps performed to start the engine:

0:08 - The young machine operator begins to pre-lubricate the engine.
0:32 - After reaching 2 bar oil pressure, the older machine operator turns the engine manually.
1:44 - The engine is turned by compressed air with cylinder taps opened to blow out water or oil, if present. The engine is still being pre-lubricated.
1:57 - The machine operator closes the cylinder taps.
2:14 - Water pump switched on (control cabinet in the background).
2:16 - Fuel valve opened.
2:18 - Injection pumps on filling: Probably, this means that the injection pumps are set to maximum as a basic setting (big wheel). The final fuel amount is set by the governer (small wheel in the background).
2:21 - Preheating
2:30 - Glowplugs are glowing.
2:34 - Engine start by compressed air.
2:55 - The machine operator checks the combustion by opening the cylinder taps shortly.
3:13 - Finally, he raises the RPM by adjusting the governor.

Solution Solver - Intercept Wheel

What's New?

+ Position Keeper integrated into the main intercept wheel.

+ Determining target course and speed from two bearing/range readings integrated into the main intercept wheel. Can be done in real-time mode or with a specific time interval.

+ New "Periscope Solver" tool designed with Wolfpack in mind.

+ Both sides of the german attack disc seen in many Silent Hunter mods now included. Click the center of the Dial to flip it over.

+ Various internal improvements.

Download:

Requirements:
A graphics card that is not a potato.

Since this is a .NET app written in C#, i used some Managed components of DirectX to render the dials for speed. Not all DirectX installers come with those components. So you may or may not need to run the full directX web installer to get them if they are missing from your system.

Retranslated U-boat Commander’s Handbook
By derstosstrupp

"As some of you may know, the English translation (done during the war) of the 1942/43 U-boat Commander’s Handbook left much to be desired. The translator got a lot right, but the translation was done more or less literally, often using German syntax which made it read awkwardly in English and in many cases there were assumptions made that were wrong, stemming from the translator’s lack of procedural and technical knowledge of U-boats.

So, I have retranslated the document in clearer language and correcting the many inaccuracies, also commenting here and there for sake of clarity as well as to provide historical context. Only paragraphs 3 through 245 are my retranslation, as these were the only I could find in the original German. For the rest, I simply cleaned up the language and modified it to better communicate the intent of the paragraphs.

SEE LINK TO DOCUMENT BELOW!

Enjoy!"

This game will be a blast to do a dogs of war Uboat.  I probably wont get it till it goes 50% or they add crew bots...which ever comes first.  The crew bots could allow a dogs of war wolfpack.

Or we could travel to the Baltic or black sea and sink soviets if you can't bring yourself to do the virtual un ethical and sink virtual British ships.

That's why I love the Eastern Front, both sides are the bad guys, you can play either one with a clear conscious.

Version 0.16 is now available.

The update features a training mission illustrating the in-game mechanics of the torpedo data computer.
The training mission gives you the option to observe the calculated torpedo trajectory, as well as the distance, speed and angle on bow of the target.

The targets are represented by blue triangles. The semi-transparent triangle in front of each target represent the targets position on the calculated impact.
Ship types are also represented, allowing you to practice identifying the ships using the recognition manual.
