About

Deity Empires is a 4X, turn-based strategy game with a powerful “just one more turn” feel! Enter an intricate fantasy world as one of many deities posed to become ruler of the world. On a backdrop of classic 2D graphics, choose from one of the many playable races, and compete with rival deities as you explore the world. Extract food, natural resources, and valuable minerals from the land, and increase your power as you defeat wild monster lairs and build cities to expand your empire. Defeat rival deity armies in tactical battles, increasing the skill of your units with every victory. Materialize your deity to become a unit with extraordinary powers to lead an army in battle. Or strategically transcend your deity into an etherealized form, casting magical spells throughout the world and in any battle, and growing in power as you research magical spells and increase your magic skills in your quest for world domination.

HUGE VARIABILITY IN GAME PLAY:
•   Choose your deity's starting abilities from over 30 deity abilities, and select your starting magic knowledge from 10 different schools of magic. Witness the potency of your deity's spells increase with its magic skill.
•   Explore the world map with over 200 unique units, each with choosable attacks, spells, abilities, and in-depth stats and attributes.
•   Harness more than 250 unique abilities acquirable by units, and over 300 unique spells and enchantments in 10 schools of magic.

USER-FRIENDLY GAME INTERFACE:
•   Random map generator allows full control over the size and type of the map, from full land maps, to one continent maps, to island hopping maps with hundreds of islands.
•   Powerful AI strategy on the world map, and AI tactics on the battle map enhance game play.
•   If you prefer not to manage some aspect of the game, such as controlling your units in battle, managing cities, or managing workers/resources, you may assign any or all tasks to AI control, so you can focus on aspects of the game you prefer. Or manage all aspects of your empire yourself for ultimate control!

IN-DEPTH WORLD OF FANTASY AND MAGIC:
•   Find and create powerful magic items for your units, such as weapons, armor, shields, helm, rings, amulet, and boots. Items increase unit attributes, and have special enchantments to further enhance unit abilities (such as Health Regeneration, Dragon Slaying, or Invisibility).
•   Increase unit experience and level as you win battles. As units increase in level, you determine which new spells, attacks, abilities, stats or attributes they learn.
•   Summon powerful magical units to join the ranks of your armies, such as Dragons, Lich Lords, Rock Behemoths, and Shadow Rift Spawns, and lay waste to entire armies of less powerful units.

ENGAGING CITY MANAGEMENT:
•   Over 160 unique buildings can be built in each city. Streamlined interface allows quickly choosing building priority queues, so you never get bogged down with micromanagement.
•   Over 200 technologies to research, increasing various aspects of your empire.
•   Hire mercenaries in your cities as they make themselves available based on various factors which you influence.

Deity Empires - Update 1.1.36
17 MAR @ 4:15AM   - TLALOC

We've published an update to the game tonight. The update is a culmination of almost 3 months of updates done to the beta version of the game, with many fantastic ideas coming from the community of players!

Some of the highlights of the changes made include:

• Extensive modding support, fully integrated with Steam Workshop. Some fantastic mods have already been created!
• Added 1 additional playable race, the Lizardmen.
• Added over 25 additional units, 25+ additional spells, enchantments and unit abilities.
• Added city specializations, giving subtle bonuses to the city related to the area of specialization.
• Over 15 music tracks added to the game.

Note that the full list of updates notes are available in game. Here are the complete notes for updates done in March:

1.1.36
(2019-03-13)
• Changed ability “Slow Out of Water” to “Fast in Water”, and reduced the movement points of Kraken units to 3.
• You can now view Learnable Abilities and Learnable Spells in the Unit Info Screen.
• Updated the Unit Compendium and Help File to show Learnable Abilities, Spells, Attacks, Evolves To, by level.
• Fixed a bug which prevented the Artificer's Warehouse from being built.
• Added ability to give units descriptions, which will appear in the Unit Info Screen.

1.1.35
• (2019-03-10)
• Units can now evolve. Units evolve as a level up option. Dragons have been chained to evolve: Baby->Young->(Adult)->Ancient. Imps evolve: Lesser Imp->Imp->Greater Imp.
• The “Submerge in Water” ability now supersedes the revealed buff.
• Enemy units in dungeons should no longer spawn near attackers.
• Added Mana Wells city specialization.
• Summon Lesser Imp is now a world summon, in addition to a battle summon.
• Added option “dont_change_music” to game_settings.txt. Set this to 1 and the music will not be themed to the environment (battle/world/city), and will not change until a music track has completed.

1.1.34
• (2019-03-08)
• Units now gain +1 magic level every 5 unit levels (formerly +1 every 2 unit levels), and +1 magic resist every 5 unit levels (formerly 1 per 5 units levels, and 1 per 10 unit levels).
• Added Sea Serpent and Kraken units as random water spawns.
• Added ~15 additional music tracks.

1.1.33
• (2019-03-04)
• Fixed issue with text color on disabled buttons.
• Fix for AI boats avoiding land armies, and vice versa.
• Some preliminary music has been included in this patch. You can adjust the music volume in the game settings, or turn the music off by setting the music volume to 0.

1.1.32
• (2019-03-03)
• Increased chance that the AI prefers to build and keep ranged units to defend in cities with walls.
• Fixed a bug in games with a large stack size setting: the AI wanted to stack cities with too many units too early in the game. Also tweaked the AI code to make the AI less likely to stack as many units in the early game.
• AI armies should now seek to (somewhat) avoid more powerful enemy armies when travelling.
• Added columns to the Unit Compendium, showing all abilities, available abilities, spells and attacks. The data in these columns will likely be cut-off in game, but can be viewed in the help_manual.txt file (best viewed in a spreadsheet).
• Fixed a bug which allowed the same deity to exist twice in the same game.
• Reduced the lesser arcane strike charges awarded from the Alchemist's Great Tower to 2 every 5 turns.
• Mountain Dwarves and Northmen are much more likely to be placed on or near their favored terrain type.
• Added a button to the Create Item List screen to toggle which weapons to display (current units/buildable units/same-aligned units/all units).
• Added “Defend” and “Pray” battle actions. Defending gives a unit +5 armor chance and +2 avoidance during the enemies turn, while Praying gives a unit +2 magic resist. Units can only defend or pray if they haven't moved, cast, or attacked. Resting a unit will make it defend if it is eligible to do so.
• Changed “Conscription Center” unique building to reduce production costs by 20% in the city it is built. It no longer has a global effect (formerly reduced costs in all cities by 5%).
• Updated the City Building Tree to show buildings that cannot currently be built, but may be built in the future when certain conditions are met. Added the display of additional requirements for buildings in the Build Tree (Population, Civic reqs).
• Added new flag for modding units: “is_unique”. Unique units can only spawn/appear once in the game if this is set.
• Added new flag for modding units: “hireling_chance”. See the modding forums for details. The old flag “hireling_unit” has been removed (for backwards compatibility it will convert to “hireling_chance=100”).
• Mercenaries of any quality can now appear in cities, but the chance of mercenaries appearing above the Mercenary Quality attribute of a city is greatly reduced. Previously, mercenaries would never appear in a city if their XP Value was above the cities Mercenary Quality attribute.
• The Lizardmen are now available as a playable race.
• New spell: Flame Wall (City Enchant, Level 11, Fire school). Protects a city with a flame wall.
• Added attack Holy Water to Highmen Priests.
• Changed spell Earth Cataclysm to level 10 Alteration spell, target type Battle Map. Previously the spell was only available to Rock Behemoths once they reached level 10.

Deity Empires - Update 1.1.44
14 MAY @ 5:29AM   - TLALOC

We've published an update to the game tonight. The update moves two months of beta updates into the live build.

Some of the highlights include:

• Added dungeon levels to the game. You can descend down into a dungeon to get greater treasure, but must face more powerful creatures.
• Added lesser heroes to the game.
• Added heal and mana potions to the game.
• Added “Zone of Control” to all units in combat. This will be the default mechanic, but can be turned on/off via game options.
• Added 15 additional music tracks to the game.

Here are the complete update notes since the last update:

1.1.44
• (2019-05-12)
• Added “Reset to Defaults” button to the setup options and game options screens.
• Fixed a crash that occurred when adjusting potions sliders on the Unit Info Screen during battles.
• When an army is overstacked after a battle, the weakest units will be deleted first.
• AI will properly use potions it has in inventory.
• Units in lairs have a chance to spawn with potions.

1.1.43
• (2019-05-10)
• In the Load Game screen, you can now right click on a file to view info about that save game. You can also rename the save game file by clicking on its name when viewing info about the save game.
• Some spells with limited range can now have their range increased by increasing a units magic level. Spells affected are Harm, Blinding Trap, Net Trap, Explosive Trap, Ogre Leap, Leaping Rock Smash, Explosive Mine.
• Added Random Option during opponent deity creation to obscure the exact deities you will play against.
• Added abililty to mod hero names similar to city names, using the file heronames.txt
• Added “Zone of Control' game options, giving every unit a zone of control. When a unit moves into an enemies zone of control, it uses up all of its remaining movement points.
• Added a game option to cap the Spellcasting range of units.
• When a unit casts a spell during battle which requires a target, range crosshairs will appear showing the range of the spell (similar to the crosshairs icon for ranged attacks).
• Added heal and mana potions to the game. These will appear in dungeons with treasure, and can be produced in cities.
• Decreased the number of treasure piles per dungeon.
• Accelerated the rate at which dungeon levels become more difficult.
• Added deity ability Necromancer, which reduces the mana upkeep costs of undead units by 20% plus 1% per death magic skill level.
• Updated the setup options to use sliders and checkboxes.
• Fixed a bug with lair spawns.

1.1.41
• (2019-05-01)
• Added random lesser heroes. These lesser heroes are the same unit type as current units in the game, but have random rolled health and weapon stats (slightly stronger than their base unit type), and only 1 figure. They typically can utilize additional item slots. Currently these random heroes only make themselves available as random mercenaries available for hire in cities.
• Changed overland battle maps to have considerable grassland through the middle.
• Fixed bug not awarding loot after overland battles.
• Fixed bug with Extend Battle not carrying over between dungeon levels.
• Fixed bug: losing a battle in a dungeon after dungeon level 1 would cause a crash during the Creature AI turn.
• Treasure and staircases in dungeons now remain visible once they are discovered.
• Fixed a bug with the game crashing when Windows cannot load XAudio2_7.DLL.

1.1.40
• (2019-04-28)
• Added dungeon levels. Once all enemies are defeated in a dungeon, you can descend down a staircase to the next dungeon level, where new and unknown enemies await. Once you descend, treasure on the previous level will be lost forever. Enemies will get progressively harder and more numerous as you proceed further down dungeon levels.
• Cursors can now be modded.
• Right clicking a unit in battle no longer brings up the Unit Info Screen. To see the info for a unit, double right+click on the unit.
• Changed how the Magic Summoning Circle functions. Every deity will always have a Magic Summoning Circle in one of its cities (the first city). You can change this city by building the Magic Summoning Circle in another city.
• Added Mana Conduit empire unique building, giving +20 mana per turn. This will replace the Magic Summoning Circle building in previous save games.

1.1.39
• (2019-04-22)
• Thorns, Spiked Shield and Spiked Armor damage are no longer reduced by armor.
• Greatly increased the effects of giving gifts to other deities. Allying with same-aligned deities will be much easier as a result, and appeasing (ie delaying war with) different aligned deities via gifts should now be a feasible strategy.
• The effects on deity relations from all sources has been reduced as relations get further away from 0. It will now be difficult for deity relations to get to extreme values.
• Perceived aggression no longer increases when enslaving cities.
• Enslaved cities don't count when determining how slow settlers are automatically produced.
• Changed the interface in Game Options screen to use checkboxes/sliders.
• Added unit Mud Goblin Stone Slinger. Removed level 5 available attack option Stone Sling from Mud Goblin Stone Thrower, and made the Mud Goblin Stone Slinger an evolve choice for the Stone Thrower.
• Added 3 additional music tracks for the overland/world map theme. Added 7 classical music tracks (optional to play in game options). Ctrl+TAB will skip to the next song.
• Added game option: dungeons are no longer visible until explored.
• Added game option to change the dungeon size.
• Added treasures to dungeons. When this game option is turned on, dungeons must be explored (creatures will not seek you out). The loot from dungeons when this option is turned on is considerably higher than with the option turned off, and increases as the dungeon size increases. However, the loot will be lost if you do not pick it up before the battle ends.
• Added additional options for choosing random enemies when starting a new game.
• Doubled the rate at which deities gain magic skill. Added “magic_skill_gain_multiplier” to game_settings.txt to allow altering the rate of magic skill gain (caps at 1000, which is 10 times the default rate).
• Added new terrain improvements: Civic Research Facility and Magic Research Library.
• Changed the Training Grounds improvement to award XP to all units on the tile. The max level it can train units to is training_grounds_level*(1+road_level).
• Viewing an item in the Item Info Screen (right click on an item in the Item List Screen or the Create Item screen) will show all units that can equip that item.

1.1.38
• (2019-03-24)
• Fixed bug: if an etherealized deity cast the Earth Cataclysm spell, the game would crash to desktop.
• Garrison units will no longer spawn on the world map. Instead they will spawn during city battles, similar to Defense Towers.
• Reduced Earth Cataclysm spell damage by 50%.
• Fixed bug: deity armies were able travel over empty cities of deities they weren't at war with, on their way to another destination. This would cause the city to be razed/destroyed without war being declared.
• Defend and Pray now give buffs, with images and sounds.
• Left and Right arrows have been added as hotkeys for most Prev/Next buttons.
• Added additional evolve choices to a number of non-city units. See the Unit Compendium in game for details on which additional units can evolve, and to what.

1.1.37
• (2019-03-21)
• When you conquer a different aligned enemy city, you can now choose between Razing the city, or Enslaving the city/population. Razing the city will completely destroy the city (which is what currently happens). Enslaving the city will cause all buildings in the city to be destroyed, and the population will have extremely high dissent. Enslaved cities can only build a minimal number of buildings, and cannot produce units. Enslaved cities are useful for producing some gold/resources, and for holding valuable land areas until same-aligned settlers are available (at which time enslaved cities can be migrated).
• Changed some building prerequisites to better streamline gold as a building objective. Note that this may result in save games having buildings built without the prereqs.
• Changed the position of some buildings in the Building Tree. This may affect mods (modded buildings may overlap). You can press Ctrl+E while in the Building Tree to help mod building positions.
• Empty cities will now spawn a weak unit when attacked, although the unit will likely die from fright almost immediately. This means defense towers will now defend empty cities.
• Changed City Screen for owned cities to show City Specialization in the lower left panel, replacing built buildings. When viewing other deities cities, you will see the Built Buildings in that city.
• Fixed bug: when a unit evolved during a dungeon battle, and it was the only unit in its army, all visibility would be lost in the dungeon.
• Increased the evolve level requirements of dragons and imps.
• Added additional evolve choices to a number of non-city units. See the Unit Compendium in game for details on which additional units can evolve, and to what.
• Added additional worldmap F5 option to show Available city build spots.
• Fixed bug: food and resources should now transfer properly to evolved units when they evolve outside of battle.
• Added unit Poison Elemental. Added spell Summon Poison Elemental.
• Added ability “Fatigues” to Centaur Archers, causing Centaur Archer to lose half-movement points after battle round 25.
• Added 8 additional item slot types: Spellbook, Gloves, Leggings, Cloak, Belt, Ring3, Ring4, Amulet2. All deity units can utilize these new items/slots (future heroes will also be able to utilize these items/slots).
• Summon Ghoul is now a level 6 spell (formerly level 4).
• You can now Double-click to load a saved game.
• Fixed bug: when the chosen starting race and chosen starting deity were of different races, and materialized was chosen as a deity ability, the starting settler was of the race of the starting deity, rather than the chosen starting race.
• Fixed bug with no gold being received from lair loot.

Beta Build 1.1.47
18/05/19

Hi everyone,

We've released a new beta build. Here are the update notes:

Beta Build participation
To play the beta build (rather then the default build), follow these steps:

1. Right click on Deity Empires in your Steam Library.
2. Click on Properties (usually the last option in the popup menu).
3. In the Properties window that just appeared click on the BETAS tab.
3. Choose "beta-" from the dropdown box labelled "Select the beta you would like to opt into:".

The beta build is typically very stable, and allows getting the most recent game updates weeks or months ahead of when they go into the default build.

1.1.47
(2019-05-18)

• The snaring effects of Grappling Hooks, Bola Balls and Entangling Shot attacks now have a max duration of 3 combat rounds plus 1 round per 5 units levels. Units can still break free of the effects at any time.
• Removed the Inhibit Movement ability as a level up option from all units except Mud Goblin Blocker. This reverts back to the original unit abilities.
• Individual units can be automated during battle. These units act when you hit the End Turn button.
• Updated the way the enabled/disabled status of mods is stored on the local hard disk. This may help prevent some anti-virus software from triggering alerts when mods are downloaded.
• Added a setting to game_settings.txt to make the AI more likely to target hurt enemies. The “target_most_hurt_unit” key will increase the likelihood of targetting hurt enemies. A value of 100 increases the chance by 100%, while a value of 500 increases the chance by 500%.
• Auto Battle (AI): units will attempt to pickup treasure in dungeons once all enemies have been defeated.
• You can press F5 during battle to see which tiles you haven't seen yet. Useful to determine where you still need to explore in dungeons.
• Fixed a crash caused when pressing the right/left arrow keys while viewing a unit that isn't in an army (eg an unhired mercenary unit in the City Screen, or a preview of a unit from the Building Tree or Unit Compendium).
• Color coded city graphics. Does not apply to mods.

Beta build 1.1.48
28/05/19

Hi everyone

We've released a new beta build. Note that the xp needed per level has changed (much less xp needed at earlier levels, and more after level 13), so you may get a large number of units that need level up choices when you load a saved game.

Here are the complete update notes:

1.1.48
• (2019-05-28)

• Added ability Unimpeded, allowing a unit to move unimpeded through Zone of Control and other impairing effects (Slow Movement, Inhibit Movement). A number of units will receive this ability.
• Supply Wagons can choose All-Terrain Specialist as a level-up ability.
• Changed default starting_battle_mana to 30, starting_meditation to 40. This will only apply to new installs (new players), or if you delete game_settings.txt, or manually change the values in game_settings.txt.
• Changed the way xp needed to level up is calculated. It is now 2*level^3 - 5*level^2 + 12*level. Relative to the current system, this makes levelling up much faster until level 13, after which it gets increasingly hard. You can change the coefficients in game_settings.txt, which are named xp_coeff_3, xp_coeff_2, xp_coeff_1, xp_coeff_0. The formula for the xp needed for a unit of level to get to the next level is xp_coeff_3*level^3 + xp_coeff_2*level^2 + xp_coeff_1*level + xp_coeff0.
• Reduced the Evolve level requirements of various units.
• The Item List screen will remember its position while equipping units.
• The Items button will show a rotating icon when new items are available.
• Added some small decor to battle fields and dungeons.
• Added Game option to reverse the Battle Order queue.
• Added button to the Unit Info screen to allow disbanding/destroying a friendly unit during battle.
• Lesser heroes should roll about half as many strikes and twice as much damage as they currently do.
• When a unit with the Backstabber ability attacks an enemy while in a position to backstab, the enemy cannot strike back.
• Added new Spells: Frostbite, Cold Snap, Summon Young White Dragon, Summon Lesser Rift Spawn. Added new Buffs: Frostbite, Cold Snap.
• Added 4 new units: Highmen Mercenary Rider, Elven Ice Sorceress, Ancient Elven Ice Sorceress, Lesser Rift Spawn.
• Added 2 new attacks: Glacial Spike, Chaos Emission.
• Added new ability Bringer of Cold.
• Added Magic Gems. Currently the only use for magic gems is to allow enchantments on items. Much more will come in future updates.
• Added display lines in Deities Info Screen for lesser hero chance, and Magic Gems.
• More enchantments can be added to created items. Most will require Magic Gems.
• Current mods in the workshop will now allow Steam achievements to be earned.
• Adjusted the “ai_battle_target_most_hurt_enemy_mod” game setting to a default of 100.
• You can direct engineers to build a road to a target tile. This is done by Ctrl+left clicking a target tile when an engineer(s) are selected.
• Fixed crash that occurred sometimes after demonically possessing an enemy.
• Reduced the size of wall graphics on the overland map.
• Added 3 additional Create Portal spells on the overland map with increased ranges. Decreased the cost of the existing Create Portal spells.
• Increased maximum possible Health on Heroic Rings to 8.
• Fixed a crash that could occur when a totally unguarded city (no units, garrison or tower) was within the evaluation range of an enemy AI army, or was attacked by an enemy army.
• Raising/lowering terrain with minerals on it will only destroy the minerals if the new terrain doesn't allow the minerals (so no Whales can occur on grassland).
• Changed the deity “Soul Channeler” abililty: “The casting cost to raise core units from the dead is reduced by 50%, and souls consumed from winning battles is increased by 50%. “ Was previously 10% and 10%.
• Souls Consumed from defeating enemies or casting Consume Souls has been reduced by 50%.

1.1.47
• (2019-05-18)

1.1.46
• (2019-05-16)
• You can now mod the thickness of the game fonts by editing the appropriate key-values in ui_settings.txt.
• You can reset individual game options to default by right clicking the game option.
• Added game option to increase/decrease chance of lesser heroes appearing.
• Potions from units that evolve should now be distributed correctly (rather than disappearing forever).
• Increased the strength rating of Young Dragons.
• Fixed a bug with heroes sometimes not appearing in the Army-at-Tile/Overall Strength popup window.

1.1.45
• (2019-05-15)
• Added game option to view units numeric move path costs during battle.
• Reduced chance of lesser heroes offering their services.
• Fixed a crash that could occur at start up when random deities could not be rolled properly.
• Enhanced AI potion usage.
• Fixed a bug with the game options sliders, and some game options not updating correctly when set.
• Supply units can now gain experience from combat.

Update 1.1.49
9 Jun @ 4:18pm - Tlaloc

We've published an update to the game.

Here are the release notes:

1.1.49
• (2019-06-05)
• Only 1 defense tower in a city will be repaired each turn.
• The casting progress of Increase Meditation, Increase Battle Mana and Expand Item Vault will be not be lost when you switch to casting other world spells.
• Whenever a city owned by a deity with the Alchemist ability creates a potion, there is a 50% chance of creating an extra potion.
• Added city radius outlines. These can be turned on or off in the Game Options.
• Added “road_color” key to ui_settings.txt, to allow changing the road color.
• Bug fixes: victory condition population, city specializations affecting research, logical planner affecting friendly units, item enchantments divine barrier and great divine barrier, heal specialist ability, descriptions for spells that use unit level instead of magic level.
• The AI will now cast portal spells.

Beta Build 1.1.53

Hi everyone

We've released update 1.1.53 to the beta build. This build mainly adds various player-requested features.

Here are the full update notes:

1.1.53
• (2019-07-29)
• Fixed a crash which could occur when disbanding a transport carrying units.
• Added additional support for some older graphics cards.
• Reduced the range per turn increase that affected how far AI deity armies/units will search for enemies. This will somewhat speed up very long games with many units, with the caveat that the AI may not engage enemies which are too far away. Added game key “ai_wander_range_increase_turnnum_power” to modify this value (.1 makes the AI search very limited, .5 is the default, and 1 makes the AI search range enormous as the game goes on).
• Capped the gold bonus the AI receives when you set the max stack size larger than 6. The cap is 200*(max stack size - 6) per city. This should allow the AI enough gold maintain a full city defense force in each city, while not giving them enough gold to field huge numbers of additional troops. Note that this will considerably change the dynamics for games with large AI stacks, as they will likely field far fewer armies than they do currently (especially in late game).
• Potions from disbanded units will now be distributed properly to nearby friendly units and cities. Disbanded units will now correctly lose all carried resources and potions.
• Excess potions in a city will now be redistributed to linked cities.
• The food from bonus resources that require the ranch improvement (chicken, pig, cow) has been increased.
• Added Dockyards improvement, which can be built on Ocean/Shallows terrain. Newly built ships/boats in nearby cities will be placed on tiles with Dockyards before other tiles. In addition, when a navy is attacked while on a dockyards within range of a friendly city, shore batteries at the dockyards will assist in defense.
• Added help entries for Dockyards, Gem Extraction Workshop.
• Fixed a bug with buffs from opposing deities sometimes overriding each other.
• Added mana bars to the battle map display. Ctrl+h will cycle through the health/mana bar displays.
• Added game option to limit the FPS.
• Added checkboxes to the City Screen to toggle allowing ability/spell charges to be awarded to nearby units.

Beta Build 1.1.54 and 1.1.55

EDIT: We've released beta version 1.1.55 to fix an issue. Also included is the ability to mod spells and civics (at a basic level). Here are the 1.1.55 update notes:

1.1.55
• (2019-08-28)
• Marked for Death spell makes attacks against its target not suffer from long-range penalty.
• Added basic modding support for spells. See the in-game help file for more info.
• Added basic modding support for civics. See the in-game help file for more info.
• Fixed bug with “Battle Spells Displayed” and “Attack Available to AI” not being saved correctly.

---------------------------------------

Hi everyone

We've released a new beta build. This build mostly contains quality of life improvements. A significant option that we've added is the ability to change the size of the battle map. We've also changed the behaviour of the UI/mouse_cursor when a spell on the world map is ready to be cast.

Here are the full update notes:

1.1.54
• (2019-08-27)
• Added game options to change color brightness.
• Lesser hero XP value will now calculated correctly, rather than being the same value as the non-hero version of the same unit.
• Added F6 hotkey to show move range of units under the mouse during battle.
• Added checkbox to allow toggling attacks on/off for units when the AI is controlling them.
• Selected Deity spells will now be shown in the top right of the battle screen.
• You can now choose what spells to display in the top-right spell list panel during battle for each unit, and for your deity.
• Enemy units in dungeons should almost never spawn near your units starting location. There may be rare cases where this still happens, such as a small dungeon map with many enemy units and an unlucky layout being rolled.
• Made dungeon creation more compact, so that dungeons will rarely resize above the Dungeon Size game setting, unless absolutely needed.
• Added game option to change the distance between opposing armies at the start of outdoor battles, as well as the width and height of each battle position (note: changing this can have a large effect on the combat balance between melee, ranged and casting units). Together with the change to make dungeons more compact, this should make battles alot faster for those who prefer to engage the enemy right away.
• Added City Option to allow/disallow carry-over of production.
• Dispel Enchantment can now be cast on portals.
• City specializations magic research and civic research are now 5 times more effective.
• World spells that require a target no longer make the target cursor appear at the start of turn. Instead, the mouse cursor changes to indicate a spell is waiting to be cast. Click the icon (which only appears when a spell is waiting to be cast) in the lower left corner of the screen to bring up the target cursor. You can leave the spell waiting to be cast for multiple turns. To cancel the spell, begin casting another spell in the Spell Screen.
• All units should now properly seek treasure when AI controlled in a dungeon after all enemies have been defeated.
• Fixed bug with the battle map not properly centering on the selected unit when the c key is pressed, or the center on unit button is clicked. This bug only occured when the animation Delay was set to 0.
• Fixed bug with some abilities not being choosable once an upgraded version of the ability becomes available to a unit (Strong, Counterfire, Charge Attack).
• Increased the number of moddable unit slots to 400.
• Reduced the health of Galleons, Caravels, Fishing Trolleys and Archer's Towers by 50%. Reduced the health of Galleys ~60% and reduced its moves from 6 to 4. Reduced Galley's Naval Ram damage by 50%.
• The Death Protection ability should now function properly.
• Added spells Bandage Self, Mass Bless.
• Added greater heroes Mobadeth the Frenzied, Lurian'Ker the War Mage, Archmage Valen Highbury.
• Added unit abilities Frenzy Master, Group Frenzier, Casting Expert 1, Deity Mana Channeler 2/3/5.
• Added buff Bandage Self.
• Updated treasure finding algorithm so units under AI control should path over dungeon treasures more efficiently.
• Added help manual entries for all improvements.
• Right clicking on an active army button (build city/engineer buttons) will bring up a help screen for the button.
• Units can now move Adamantium and Mithril separately from Natural Resources by using the bars in the Unit Info Screen / Unit Card.
• Greater Heroes will desert their deity if the deity is defeated. This will allow the Greater Heroes to come into play again for other deities (they can be summoned again with Call Greater Hero).
• Doubled the turns required for engineers to build walls on the overland map.
• Walls on the overland which are outside of a cities range cannot be controlled by deities beyond the current turn.
• Walls on the overland map will not slow armies of deities allied with the wall controller.
• Added game setup option which allows walls on the overland map which are in range of a city to prevent travel of armies which are neutral to the wall controller ie you must be allied with or at war with the wall controller to pass over the wall.
• Fixed issues with some spells using magic level for calculations when they should have been using unit level.
• Added Zone of Control game option for armies on the world map.
• AI units with grappling hooks will now scale city walls. Beware!
• Meditation is now the default world spell. Once a spell is complete, the spell casting will revert to meditation rather than <none>.
• Added keys “unit_mana_recovery_percent_between_battles0” and “unit_mana_recovery_rounds0” to game_settings.txt to determine how much mana units can recover between battles. The amount of mana a unit will recover at the beginning of each battle is at most unit_mana_recovery_percent_between_battles0 times its maximum mana. This is further reduced by an amount proportional to [unit_mana_recovery_rounds0 less the number of battle rounds it has fought that game turn], and after it exceeds unit_mana_recovery_rounds0 it will no longer recover mana. This also applies to Defense Towers in cities.
• The abilities Grows in Size and Grows Quickly now may add health and movement points proportional to the size gained.
• Fixed a bug with tile visibility not updating correctly when a city changes owner.
• Added key “load_random_seed_when_loading_save_game” to game_settings.txt to allow/disallow loading the saved seed for the main random number generator. Setting this to 0 allows obtaining different results when you reload a saved game.

Beta Build 1.1.56
19 Feb 2020

Hi everyone

We've released a new beta build (finally!). The changes in this update are too many and too diverse to highlight anything in particular, so here are the full update notes:

1.1.56
• (2020-02-17)
• Added “road_wall_or_army_prevents_lair_spawn_distance” to game_settings.txt, to change the distance at which lairs are prevented from respawning near roads, walls or armies.
• All Lizardmen fighting units can now choose Water Travel as a level up choice at level 5, allowing travel over water on the world map (at the cost of a level up choice!).
• Tooltips will now appear over units in the Units list panel and the Active Army panel, showing various info about the unit under the mouse.
• World spell casting will now default to the last recurring spell clicked on. Recurring spells are: Increase Meditation, Increase Battle Mana, <none> (ie Increase Mana Pool), Consume Souls, Increase Magic Research, Expand Item Vault.
• Added units Leviathan, Electric Sea Snakes.
• The Lizardmen Kraken can now choose Shocking Strike at level 10, and can evolve to a Leviathan at level 15.
• Added spell Spawn Electric Sea Snakes.
• Added attacks Water Spout, Leviathan Lash, Small Bite. Water Spout shoots in a straight line through targets, gives water spheres to targets it hits, and replenishes ammo each turn the unit is in water.
• Added abilities Water Regeneration.
• Fixed a bug with Ice Shield not working correctly in some cases, and changed the behaviour to “Place a protective shield of ice around a friendly unit. The shield absorbs up to 2 physical damage per attack, and absorbs up to 50% of cold damage taken. Once 20 (plus 5% per magic level) damage has been absorbed, the shield is depleted. The physical absorb amount increases by 1 per 10 magic levels of the caster.”.
• Fixed the mana cost of healing spells cast on the world map. Their mana cost is now increased by the same amount as other (non-healing) spells when cast on the world map.
• Fixed display of mana cost in the battle panel in the top-right of the screen during battle.
• Tweaked spells Disintegration (now higher spell level, slightly less damage) and Meteor Strike (now lower spell level, slightly more damage).
• Fixed bug with potions disappearing when wearing items that increase potion storage.
• Pain Spikes spell can no longer be resisted.
• Item enchantments may now grant abilities, or spells that have a chance to cast either “on-hit”, “when-hit” or “end-of-turn”. Old item enchantments will migrate to one of the new ability or spell procs.
• Fixed bug with Water Walking items not working correctly.
• Items destroyed may now yield magic gems, mithril or adamantium.
• Item enchantments which the player doesn't currently have the resources to create will be greyed out in the Create Item window.
• Interacting with the Armies List window should mimic the Units List window UI interactions.
• Added game option to limit the display size of units on the battlefield.
• Items can be now sorted by item attributes.
• The item list window will now appear once you are done creating an item (provided it was initiated from the item list window).
• Dungeons now have a set number of levels. The loot on the last dungeon level has been increased in quality, and at least 1 item will be on the last level. The max level can be changed via game_settings.txt.
• Units that counter-fire will now gain xp if they land the killing blow.
• World-Map/Overland walls outside of city range will now remain controlled by the last deity to travel over them. Overland walls outside of a cities range will not block neutral armies when the setup option “Traversing walls requires war” is selected.
• AI deities should no longer roll the Egotistical personality at game start if they have no material unit.
• Walls on the worldmap within range of a city will no longer slow the movement of the city owners armies, even when an enemy army is on the wall.
• Added option to pin Notes to the world map. This can be accessed by right-clicking on a tile (or hitting F2 when the mouse is over a tile). When a note is set, a pin appears on the world map where you set a note. At the moment notes are shared between all players in a multiplayer game
• Added a graphic alternative to the blinking army/unit. This can be changed in the game options.
• The AI will now traverse down dungeon levels. This can be toggled on/off in the game options.
• You can now have up to 1000 units per army by editing the keys max_ai_stack_size000 and max_human_stack_size000 in game_settings.txt. You cannot set these in the setup options, and trying to change them in the setup options will cap the stack size to 18. While setting the limit above 18 should work fine, we will not be offering support (in particular we will not be addressing performance issues, or doing AI tweaks/changes to facilitate larger army sizes!).
• Cities will now lose buildings proportional to the population lost when they are conquered.
• Fixed a bug that could occur causing a lockup if you use the “toggle_ai_control” cheat during a game where you have setup the AI max army size different than the human max army size.
• Fixed a bug that could cause a game lockup if you modded a unit to have the tranport ability, but didn't give it the boat ability.
• Fixed a bug with the Level Up screen appearing for units when no level-up options exist for the unit (specific to units with the Supply Unit ability).
• Created items are now etherealized for at most 2 turns.
• You can now destroy buildings in a city you control. To do so open the building tree and right click on a building. Then click on the Destroy Building button. All buildings beyond it in the tree will also be destroyed.
• Added spells Illuminate, Magic Torch, which add 1 to a units spotting in dungeons.
• The behaviour of the Reveal spell has changed. The new description reads “Enemy units that are in the affected tiles when the spell is cast gain the revealed buff for the duration of the spell, even when they leave the affected tiles. In addition, enemy units that move into or remain in affected tiles will become visible. Lastly, the spell allows friendly units to see the affected tiles in dungeons, even when out of spotting range.”
• Increased the spell level of Reveal from 6 to 11.
• Added game options to allow choosing from different preset color/font UI schemes.
• Fixed a display bug which showed that units could equip items that require an ability when they could not.
• Added increase_meditation_is_constant to game_settings.txt. Set this to 1 and the spell “Increase Meditation Skill” will no longer increase in cost as meditation skill increases.
• Fixed AI/automated workers/prospectors not building roads/improvements on the same turn that they move.
• Added spell Enthrall Creature. All deity units have this spell inherently. When cast on a friendly battle summoned creature (that would not normally persist after battle), this spell makes the creature join the caster's army permanently. Note that etherealized deities cannot cast this spell.
• Added key starting_item_vault_size to game_settings.txt.
• The spell Expand Item Vault can now be cast instantly by materialized deities, bypassing meditation but requiring much more mana pool.
• The experience stars of battle summons are now drawn smaller and darker on the battle map, making it easier to tell which units are battle summons.
• Added abilities Deity Mana Channeler 2/3/5, which allow a unit to increase its Deities meditation while the unit is alive. These abilities have been added to a number of units as an available level-up option.
• A message will now appear when the last defender on a dungeon level is killed (unless you have selected the game option to obscure enemies remaining).
• Added spells Corporeal Exchange and Swap Places, allowing two friendly units to change places during battle.
• The Lizard Queen Ssassrah has been added as a unit. This is the deity unit for the Lizardman race.
• Multiplayer games should no longer end when the first human player is defeated.

Beta Build 1.1.60
30 March 2020

Hi everyone

We've released beta build 1.1.60, which is mainly a QoL update with a few minor bugfixes as well. Here are the (brief!) update notes:

1.1.60
(2020-03-29)

• Fixed the ability fire strike to now apply burning, and updated the text for the ability. Previously this ability would only proc on arrows and would apply corrosive acid.
• Added, updated and corrected various tooltips and text throughout the game.
• Added “Total Production Cost” to the tooltip for buildings in a cities Building Tree screen, showing total production cost remaining for the building and all prerequisite buildings.

We plan to move this build to the default/normal build in a few days provided no major bugs are discovered.

Here are the notes for all the updates which are in this release:

1.1.59
• (2020-03-04)
• Added new civic line: Oversized Companies, allowing units to gain additional figures as they level up (up to double figures, less 1). This civic line is mutually exclusive with Over Strength Units.
• Added new ability Oversize Company, which can be selected by units once the civic above is researched.
• Fixed a number of bugs and issues related to switching your world spell when Raise Dead is currently being cast.
• Fixed a bug with right-clicking on a saved file bringing up the info for the incorrect save game.
• If the video device gets reset (due to a Microsoft Windows update occuring, hibernation/sleep/powersave mode, or various other reasons) while a game is running the game will now autosave, a message will display, and the game will terminate.
• Fixed a bug with not being able to change the setup placement of dungeon units in certain situations.

1.1.58
• (2020-02-24)
• You can now change the position of your units at the start of battle, and at the beginning of each dungeon floor.
• Added some tooltips to the Load Game screen for save games that reside on the Steam Cloud/Workshop, and for the Upload and Unsubscribe buttons. Added a graphic/icon for games that you have uploaded or subscribed to on Steam Cloud/Workshop.
• You can now overfill your item vault during your turn. If your vault is overfull, you will need to delete items before you can End Turn.

1.1.57
• (2020-02-21)
• Fixed: Multiplayer games should no longer end when the first human player is defeated.
• You can now consume heal potions outside of battle by clicking on the heal potion icon in the Unit Info Screen.
• Changed the effectiveness of heal and mana potions based on the level of the unit using them. Heal and Mana Potions now restore an additional 1-2% of maximum health/mana per unit level of the unit using them.
• Fixed a bug with the Mud Walking spell not working correctly.
• Battle summons no longer receive XP from landing killing blows. The XP they would normally receive will instead go to the end-of-battle XP pool.
• Increased the potency of magic items found on the last level of a dungeon.
• Added a Sentry mode for units.
• Fixed a bug with dungeon encounters on one dungeon level being overpowered relative to the previous level.
• Fixed message “Last Defender Killed” not always appearing.
• You can now drag resources from one unit to another by clicking on the small resource icon on the unit (in the top-right panel on the world map, or in the panel that appears when right-clicking an army on the world map) and dragging it to another unit in the army. You can also drag the icon to a neighboring army on the world map to transfer the resource to units in that army. Currently it will transfer 1 potion per drag, or for adamantium/mithril/natural resources it will transfer as much of the resource as it can.
• You can now reorder units in an army by dragging the unit, similar to dragging resource icons.
• The Artificer's Warehouse can now store 5000 additional mithril and adamantium (up from 500).
