Chaim Krause: Devops Engineer

We've been a bit slow in releasing news about game-related updates lately. The good news is that big things were happening behind the scenes.

You may recall a post a while back where we announced the addition of a new play tester named Chaim Krause.

Well, it turns out that Chaim is far more than a play tester. He has been instrumental in our upgrade from Python 2 to Python 3, which took A LOT of work. As you can see above, that's just a part of what Chaim has been up to.

As a result of his hard workd and dedication, Chaim has been promoted to Devops Engineer!

Thank you, Chaim! We couldn't have done it without you.

Sincerely,
The Burden of Command Team

The Old Hand

We hope this Black Friday finds you all well and in one piece. Those stores can be brutal on this day.

This year, we would like to give you a little something to say thank you for all your incredible support.

Meet Lieutenant Wilson.

This grizzled veteran is your eldest platoon leader. he's the company 'old hand.' The coming campaign marks his twenty-fifth year in uniform - and his second world war. Wilson's been in the army from private to lieutenant. Sent around the world and back again to Europe, just in time for his second world war.

You can find these wallpapers for PC https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1923359633 and mobile devices  https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1923361317 in the 'Art' tab. We hope you like them.

We'll see you again very soon.

Winterized Units in Burden of Command

Greetings Captain,

The enemy isn't the only thing trying to kill you in war. The elements are often just as dangerous.

Winter is especially challenging to friend an foe alike.

Study the images in this film carefully, Captain. The Germans have faced Russian winters for years. Don't underestimate them. They know how to operate in temperatures that would freeze a polar bear.

The good news is we finally got winter gear for your men. Better late than ever. Get your unit over to supply before the admin guys get it all.

Winter is coming. Good luck, Captain.

Saber 6 Out.

Their Past, Your Future: Shoreward

The interviews included in the HBO series, Band of Brothers, were incredibly personal and powerful.

We are unbelievably fortunate to have access to similar interviews of the real-life Cottonbalers who lived the history you will recreate in Burden of Command.

We are equally thrilled to be able to share portions of these interviews with you.

You've made it to your landing craft, Captain. Now it's time for what crossed the ocean to do.

Set your bow toward shore...and go like hell.

Good Luck and God's Speed, Captain.

I'll see you on the high ground.

Saber 6 out.

Their Past, Your Future: The Big Guns

The landing craft are loaded. The night is dark. The sea is rough.

Your thoughts bounce back and forth from praying your Higgins Boat doesn't capsize to trying to keep your last meal from coming back up.

Thankfully, this should still be a relatively easy landing. The boys up at intel section aren't expecting any resistance on the shore.

You spot a long, bright, horizontal strip ahead in the darkness.

"It's the beach!" someone yells.

Some men allow themselves a smile at the thought of getting of this tin can.

Fear loosens it's grip on your gut. You're almost there.

Then the shooting starts...

The Cottonbalers and You: Week 5
Sun, 2 February 2020

Their Past, Your Future: On the Beach

You made it ashore in one piece, but there's no time for congratulations.

A successful landing only means you're that much closer to the people who want to kill you.

You pat yourself down, checking your gear out of the habits gained from months of intensive training back in the States.

Frankly, you're surprised you made it this far.

The men start to mill around in the pre-dawn gloom, unsure what to do next.

They look to you. "Whada we do now, Sir?"

The muffled report of heavy machine gun fire echoes from further inland. It gives you focus.

You respond, "We do what we came here to do."

You set your boots toward your objective and march toward the sound of the guns.

"Follow me."

The Cottonbalers and You: Part 6
Sun, 9 February 2020

Their Past, Your Future: First Contact

You lead your men off the beach, thankful to feel solid earth beneath your boots. Whatever waits ahead, at least you're off that infernal Higgins Boat.

As the sun crests the horizon, you spot movement ahead. Your training kicks in again as you and your men hit the dirt.

You reach into your map case and retrieve a set of Army-issued field binoculars. Your eyes strain to make out the figures ahead in the gathering light.

"Infantry." You tell your radio operator. "Some cavalry, too."

You lower the field glasses as fear grips your stomach again.

Dying doesn't scare you as much as the idea of failing your men. Are you up to the task?

The men look to you. You can feel their nervous eyes upon you like a hundred burning spotlights.

It's time to find out what you're made of.

You grab the radio's handset and key the mic. "This is Alpha Six. All Alpha elements prepare to attack."

The Cottonbalers and You: Part 7
Sun, 16 February 2020

Their Past, Your Future: Fedala

You enter the town of Fedala at the head of Able Company.

The streets are quiet. There isn't a French soldier in sight. It seems the enemy has no stomach for this fight.

The only signs of life are the occasional glimpses of locals peeking through the windows above and the few denizens walking the narrow, dusty lanes. They seem unfazed by your presence.

Children appear. A few of your men smile at them. That's all it takes.

The youths are soon buzzing around the column like bees in a field of clover, bounding from soldier to soldier, tugging at pant legs and field jackets. The men hand them candy bars, C-rations, and anything other trinkets they have handy.

The scene reminds you of the stories the old timers told about orphans in France begging American Dough Boys for food during the Great War.

Your heart goes out to these poor kids, but you also know this is putting them and your men in danger.

This wasn't in the training manuals.

You have to do something. But what?

Your blood runs cold as you suddenly realize just how unprepared you are for this and whatever else lies ahead.

Their Past, Your Future: Hotel Miramar

If you've learned one thing in your brief war experience, it's to expect the unexpected.

Your newest mission offers more of the same.

"A hotel?" asks a sergeant.

Your men a surprised as you are.

A private jokes, "Will there be room service?" It brings a laugh from the men. You even allow yourself a grin.

"At ease, Patterson." You regain your bearing. This is still a war...Even if your objective is a luxury resort.

"Listen up, knuckleheads!" First Sergeant Grant barks. That wipes the smiles from the men's faces.

Grant is a good man. You're thankful to have him. It's good to know he always has your back.

"Go ahead, Sir." Grant nods to you.

"Thank you, First Sergeant." You clear your throat. "As I said, our objective is the Hotel Miramar. Our mission is to capture some very important guests..."

Their Past, Your Future: Fedala Mission Planning

In the finale of our miniseries about the North Africa landings in November of 1942, you are faced with one of your most difficult decisions yet...

You have your mission. The men are ready.

You examine your map...

Your task is not to take the resort itself, but to capture its high-profile German guests. That means you'll have to move quick and avoid alerting your targets. Otherwise, they are sure to escape and disappear into the desert.

There are three options. None are perfect, but you must choose one and commit all you have to it. Now you see what your instructors meant when they told you that the worst decision is indecision.

Life or death. Victory or defeat. Success or failure...

All are in your hands, Captain--And your hands alone.

This is the Burden of Command.
