UPDATE NOW LIVE | New Map Traffic + Pedestrians
Thu, 29 April 2021

Get the latest on Flashing Lights

Hello all,

Firstly, we want to say thank you very much for your patience. We apologise for the delay on this update, and really do appreciate the support.

Today's update brings traffic and pedestrians to the new map. Traffic AI has been revamped for the new map. We've also added new destructible props (news, mail and fuse boxes) and new static street props (fences, street lights, lanterns, larger fuse boxes).

Also on the new map, we've improved physics for clients in multiplayer - for instance, if you join another's game you will now be able to make contact with other vehicles. Additionally we've done some optimisation work for the new map, which should reduce the feel of lag for some of you - this is making use of a new technique which predicts where players will go in multiplayer ahead of time in order to reduce the feel of lag.

Read on for the full patch notes!

25% Off For a Limited Time

Full Update Notes

New (updates in New Map only):

- Improved traffic spawning system

- If NPC traffic (not in chase) get hit by spike strips or fail to load waypoints now will stop and turn on hazard lights. Police player then can access them as traffic stop with Traffic Vest or activating it from police car
- Towing mechanics ported to new map (Tow traffic and parked cars)
- New destructible props (News, Mail and Fuse boxes, Trash bins)
- New static street props (Benches, Fences, Street lights, Lanterns, larger Fuse boxes)
- More street props and areas around the city
- New optimized traffic lights models
- MDT vehicle scan
- Request Tow (despawn) for NPC car

Fixes

- Cones obstacle adjustments to be better noticed by AI traffic
- Suspects going on top of police department doorways while grabbed
- Pedestrian/Suspect no longer teleport back to last position for multiplayer client players when using Grab
- Pedestrian walk animations sync fix on client side
- Player vehicle physics update
- Player vehicles now carve around obstacles sooner when they are stationary, pedestrians look for way around

News on the Flashing Lights June Update
Tue, 29 June 2021

Public update release now planned for next week, unstable version available now!

Hello all,

We hope you're excited about the next Flashing Lights update! We have some news for you today.

This update will bring all EMS callouts over to the new map, plus a fire department callout, and some new liveries for the ambulance. We know you are going to love it. However, we need your help!

We have made an unstable version of the new update available for testing, and we need loads of you to give it a try. With the missions having been ported to the new map, we need to make sure that the update goes through additional testing. So please jump into the Discord
and head to the #announcements channel to find out more. We really appreciate your help!

The release will be dependent on what bugs you may find, but we are anticipating the full public release to be delayed until next week.

Full Update Reveal - EMS and Fire Department Callouts + New Ambulance Liveries

As we're asking you wait a bit longer for the public release, we wanted to give you a good look at the update itself.

EMS and Fire Department Callouts on the New Map

In this update we have ported all EMS callouts from the old map to the new map and made some adjustments. This includes motor vehicle collision, unconscious person, hit and run and gunshot wound callouts!

We've also ported a fire department rescue callout to the new map: motor vehicle collision.

We hope you'll enjoy playing these callouts on the new, optimised map.

New Ambulance Liveries

We know you love to be able to customise your Flashing Lights experience, so we have added two new liveries for the ambulance.

Please note:
We recommend that you hold on until the public release of the update if you are expecting a more polished experience.

If you wish to play the early unstable version of the update right now, please head to the official Discord
and check out the #announcements channel for details.

Flashing Lights Developer Q&A Livestream

Today, Tuesday 29 June at 4pm BST/8am PDT, Nils Jakrins (600) and Tim Boss (RedPandaViking) from the Flashing Lights team will be going live on YouTube to answer your questions! We have a massive amount of questions already submitted on the Discord, so we will be answering some of those, and maybe also some questions from the YouTube stream chat if we get the time.

We're really excited to get the update in your hands and to see you all at the Q & A livestream!

Thanks,

News on the New Map Update
Thu, September 30, 2021

We need a little more time on the unstable update

Hello all,

We wanted to keep you in the loop on a slight change of schedule. As you may know, we were hoping to get an early version of the new map update out on the unstable branch by the end of September for you all to test.

Unfortunately we ran into a few issues and need more time before we'll be releasing the unstable version for testing. Of course none of us like to delay things, but we want to do right by you, the community, and not release the update until we're happier with its quality.

We think you'll love the update and would rather take the extra time to work on it as opposed to releasing something we're not happy with, even for the unstable branch.

As we're asking you to wait a little longer we wanted to show you some more new screenshots too. Enjoy!

Watch out for more news soon - we'll let you know when the unstable version is released and you can get your hands on it! We hope you're looking forward to playing this early version and helping to test the update.

Thanks,
The Flashing Lights team

Unstable Branch: New Map Update Available Now for Testing!
Mon, 11 October 2021

We need your help in testing the update!

Hi all,

We are happy to announce that the new map update is now live on the unstable branch! As previously mentioned, this update expands the new map, removes the old one and ports lots of callouts over from the old to the new.

As this is a big change for the game, we need as many of you as possible to jump in and play the unstable version ahead of the public version - the more feedback, the better!

To access the unstable branch you can do the following:

- Load up Steam and head to your library
- Right click on Flashing Lights and then select "Properties"
- Head to the Beta tab and in the drop down select "unstable_test_branch" (no password needed)
- This will then download the new update for you

Please note: The unstable version is currently only available on Windows PC. Due to some technical issues with the Mac export of the unstable update, we will be releasing it as soon as possible.

What's in the unstable update?

New

- New map expanded with new props and buildings + new areas - 2 suburbs, 2 rural towns, marina, hill, desert and farm fields
- AI EMS, tow pick up and AI police van prisoner transport re-added within city limits
- PD callout: Person with Gun [id 1002] ported from old map to new map
- PD callout: Mugging [id 1003] ported from old map to new map
- PD callout: Suspicious Activity [id 1005] ported from old map to new map
- PD callout: Reported intoxicated persons [id 1006] ported from old map to new map
- FD callout: Vehicle Fire [id 2002] ported from old map to new map
- New gas station models and design introduced with a total of 11 locations around the new map
- New vegetation system for the new map
- Locations added to the new map ready for future additional city expansion
- Old map removed

Fixes

- Frame drop spikes reduced which was caused by CAD and pedestrians
- More optimizations for the new map: texture compression adjustments
- CAD fixes for registering players joining/leaving missions
- Grid loading system improvements
- Graphics settings updated with resolution and quality level options. No more start-up launcher menu
- EMS players no longer get stuck when interacting with downed NPC that was hit or shot, not related to EMS missions
- Sedan FTA interior dashboard icons

Between this unstable release and the full update launch we will be bug fixing, porting the remaining callouts to the new map and of course listening to your feedback.

We are currently aiming to launch the public version of this new map update by the end of the month, but this is dependent on community feedback on the unstable - so it may be later.

Thanks,
The Flashing Lights Team

Tue, 16 August 20222022 - 2023 Roadmap Announced! Mod support! World updates! More!
Tue, 16 August 2022

Get the details on what's coming in 2022 and 2023!

Hello all,

Welcome to a very exciting Flashing Lights news update! We're delighted to unveil our next roadmap, taking you all the way up to v1.0 and beyond.

Please note that in the background, alongside this roadmap, we will be investigating AI improvements!

September:

•   EMS enhancements
•   New ambulance van
•   New EMS treatments

We kick off this roadmap with a much requested update to the EMS department! We've heard your requests, and will be improving upon current EMS gameplay mechanics, and adding a new ambulance van with its own unique interior. Finally, we will be adding a number of new EMS treatments.

October:

•   Sandbox menu update
•   AI pedestrian outfit variety
•   Animation fixes

We have loved seeing what you have all been getting up to with the new sandbox menu (F6 is the default key - check it out if you haven't already!). That was just the beginning - we will be updating the sandbox menu with fun new options in October! One of these new options, the ability to switch to a civilian character model, will open up some new role play opportunities!

Let us know what sort of options you'd like to see added to the sandbox menu.

We'll also be updating AI pedestrian outfit variety, and working on animation fixes - both of which will help make the game feel that bit more natural.

December:

•   Mod support (Textures + sounds)
•   Tutorial (Hints + controls tips)
•   World Update (Rural towns + new locations)
•   Performance Optimisation

Mods by player: Elias Auxilibus

Mods have unofficially been a part of the Flashing Lights community for a long time, but we have heard loud and clear that you want in-game mod support. Which is why we're so excited to announce that mod support for textures and sounds, utilising mod.io, will be introduced in the December update.

We'll also be updating the game world, fleshing out rural towns and adding new locations.

Crucial performance optimisations are also coming with this update. We have been working hard on new environment and scenery optimisations which should deliver a smoother experience for players.

Lastly, we'll be delivering a tutorial, including hints and control tips.

2023 Q1 + Q2:

•   Bug fixes
•   Steam achievements and cloud saves
•   Rep points unlock system
•   World update
•   v1.0 launch

In the first half of 2023, we will be focusing on improving game quality by tackling bug fixes - but also updating the game world further, introducing a reputation points unlock system, and adding Steam achievements and cloud save support.

This will mark the point at which we leave Early Access and hit v1.0 - crucially though, this will NOT be the end of the game's development. In fact, we have a number of new features already planned for the second half of 2023...

2023 Q3 + Q4:

•   K9 for police and fire departments
•   Day/night cycle and weather
•   AI backup
•   Continued community-led enhancements

We're excited to announce that we will be adding AI backup in the second half of 2023! This will come in handy for when you're protecting the city alone (playing single player) - for instance, if you're playing as a police officer and come across a fire, you'll be able to call an AI backup firefighter to take on the blaze.

Just as exciting is the planned day/night cycle and weather effects, and the K9 for police and fire departments.

Aaaaand, breath out... that's all we have to share for now, but we hope you are as excited as we are for the future of Flashing Lights!

Keep an eye out for the September update, and keep on sharing your thoughts, feedback and suggestions!

Thanks for all the support,
The Flashing Lights Team

Flashing Lights 1.0 Coming Soon (05/15/2023)
Tue, 9 May 2023

Launching in June 2018 Flashing Lights represented the dream of one developer to create their perfect emergency services game. It turns out lots of other players shared that dream, and 5 years on we are still overwhelmed by the love and support our growing community has for Flashing Lights.

The current version of the game is unrecognisable from the version launched into early access, but we know we still have a lot of work left to do. You have so much feedback and so many features you want to see, and Nils shares your passion.

However, 5 years is a long time to be in early access, so we have decided to make the next update 1.0.

What to expect from 1.0

We have completely updated all of the menus to improve usability and introduced mouse navigation. This has been a highly requested update.

We are implementing some tutorials to help new players get started.

You’ll also find visual upgrades to Beach Town, adding new props, buildings, piers, and lifeguard lookout posts! This adds more life to areas of the world for players to explore.

1.0 First Look

Can’t wait for us to make 1.0 live? You can get the latest version early by signing up to the unstable branch by doing the following.
- Load up Steam and head to your library
- Right click on Flashing Lights and then select "Properties"
- Head to the Beta tab and in the drop down select "unstable_test_branch" (no password needed)
- This will then download the new update for you

That said, we know there are many more fixes and features that you all want to see. We know we are not done so think of 1.0 as just the beginning. We thank you for your continued support and can’t wait to share our future updates with you all.

What's next for Flashing Lights?

K9s

We know this is something you are all excited about. We will be adding K9 Units to Police and Fire departments, aiding you in rescue missions and a variety of police actions and callouts. We’ll also be adding additional vehicles so your 4-legged friend can ride along.

Day/Night Cycle

A day/night cycle and weather systems are in progress. These systems will add depth and reality to the Flashing Lights universe.

AI Backup
For all you lone rangers who need some support, we’ve got your back. AI backup is under development.

Plus

Additional Fixes, Callouts and Optimisation.

If you want to be part of the community that helps shape the development, then join us on Discord.
Thank you for all your continued feedback and support.

We couldn’t do it without you!

Remember 1.0 is just the beginning.

Flashing Lights 1.0 OUT NOW!
Mon, 15 May 2023

Thank you, Flashing Lights community, we couldn’t do it without you!

So many of you have supported us since the very beginning and trusted us to create the game you wanted. We could not have got this far without you. We are not done yet, but today represents an important step in the journey.

In many ways todays update is no different from the other 61 updates we have made since launch, because we know there are still so many features you want to see, so many improvements yet to make.

Nils has some big plans ahead. But going to 1.0 gives us the opportunity to look at how far we have come, take stock, and plan what we want to do next.

Since launch we have:
• Added countless new missions, and mission system. Making traffic stops and callouts more interesting and varied.
• New NPC’s and NPC traffic so the game world feels more alive.
• Many New Vehicles including SUVs, Fire Trucks and Ambulances and the Tow Truck.
• The Computer Database System, so you can investigate drivers in traffic stops.
• Customisable Lights and Sirens.
• A complete redesign and expansion of the city.
• Fire Spreading to add complexity to fire fighting.
• Redesigned Triage/Patient systems.
• Mod Support
• Playable Civilians and other features for the Role Playing community.
• Plus Weapons and Battering rams.
Nils has been very busy.

What's next for Flashing Lights?

Coming later in 2023 K9s

We know this is something you are all excited about. We will be adding K9 Units to Police and Fire departments, aiding you in rescue missions and a variety of police actions and callouts. We’ll also be adding additional vehicles so your 4-legged friend can ride along.

Day/Night Cycle

A day/night cycle and weather systems are in progress. These systems will add depth and reality to the Flashing Lights universe.

AI Backup
For all you lone rangers who need some support, we’ve got your back. AI backup is under development.

Plus

Additional Fixes, Callouts and Optimisation.

As mentioned, this is Nils dream, and he still has big plans ahead. Yes there will bug fixes, optimisations, and more callouts added. But we also have some exciting community lead features coming your way.

If you want to be part of the community that helps shape the development, then join us on Discord.
Thank you for all your continued feedback and support.

As exciting as this next step is, remember 1.0 is just the beginning. For new players, now is a great time to join our community, for everyone else, thanks again for your support. You make this possible, and we look forward to sharing the future updates with you all.
