TacView for Server Admin (DCS)
« on: July 03, 2018, 02:09:40 PM »
Hi to all,
I'm a new user of the TacView for DCS as Pilot, and I really enjoy it!
As Server Admin I notice a lack of DCS Tools that helps and improve server quality. The multiplayer experience on DCS is compromised also for this I Think.

I would like to know if you have considered the idea to "extend" the TacView feature to meets some server "hosting" needs, lot of the cooding to extract the RealTime live data it's already done ( and you can use it with the TacView Software), you can give to the admin some tools to read from the same freamwork the data to build a live map for PvE server or store player statistics into a database.

I Think it will be super appreciated feature from all the DCS Server Admin like me that would like to build som interesting place for Virtual Pilot!

I hope you can take it into account for the future ;)

 :Welcome to the forum

Hi Maverick87Shaka

Welcome to our forum.

Tacview is a great tool with a lot more functionality to come. The dev is very responsive as well.

Some interesting requests for DCS.

Regards

Hello Maverick,

I think that I understand what you are looking for.

For now, I must admit that Tacview export capabilities are quite limited compared to the level of detail I am looking for. For example, my exporter is not yet able to accurately analyse missions’ events, as well as actions against static objects. This is something which will require more work in medium-term.

Soon, there will be improvements in Tacview which may help you with your goal.

However, if what you are looking for, is to create a dynamic PvE war in DCS World, you may be interested in Mirknir’s work. He wrote a pretty accurate system to analyse the actions of all players flying on its server (currently down for several reasons). I can’t say much more about it, but he may be back this year with an even better system which may help you with your project.

Amazing! It is a pleasure to hear these things! :thumbsup

Actually, my short term goal it's find a "framework" that "exposes" DCS objects ( units and its coalition mainly ) in realtime, or based on a reasonable time interval ( 5/10 secs maybe ), to build up a server webpage, showing what is going on server in a maps.

For the long term it will be super if the TacView directly or through its telemetry port, allow the admin to do some action like write chat message, control with moving and deleting NPC units, sends LUA commands in realtime using other script feature, like MOOSE command maybe? This will be a super feature in terms of server managment. ( I know it's not the scope of "actual" TacView but i'm pretty sure it will be something that haves an high demand for sure! )

I'm coming from ArmA3 server experience where we have tons of ingame admin scripts and external tools and apps that really helps to server admin, I think it's one of the main "problem" of the DCS Multiplayer experience.

Let me know if you need, now or in the future, something like a test bench DCS server to see how it's going and what we can achieve.

Thanks to all for the great job already done ;)  :howdy
