Summer Schedule 2021
Wed, 30 June 2021

Hi everyone,

the summer is finally here and in this short announcement we would like to inform you about our summer schedule.

We are leaving to vacation with our families and in between we are also going to work in our full time jobs which means stress in general so we can't guarantee there will be regular updates during summer time.

The last regular pre-summer release was published on June 11th. We plan to release the next game update on September 10th (Experimental) and on October 1 (Regular). From October we plan to resume our normal schedule and will return to release an update every 8th Friday (on 5th Friday it is Experimental release day).

During the stretched interval between these releases we plan to work on some interesting and unique features that need more work and we hope you will like them. Also it is very needed to migrate our game to a newer game engine build which is much more optimized and stable (the engine itself). Another plan is to add the much awaited bigger (~3 times bigger area of the actual biggest grassy island ) islands too (but still not the biggest ones :-) ). There will be ponds, hills and big forests too. Besides the above mentioned big changes the bug fixing will be still our almost top priority.

With the help of our community we together have done a big amount of work and laid down a very good foundation to further improve our game to all our liking.

Thank you all for all of the feedback, ideas and suggestions and for the patience during solving issues!

We wish you a very nice summer and good health and we hope to continue together with our work relaxed and well rested.

Best regards,

Gamers4Gamers Team.

Alpha 57.E1 Experimental - Internal engine update, New Islands, Pond&Muddy water
Fri, 10 September 2021

Hi everyone,

for this experimental build we were mainly focusing on updating the internal game engine and adding background functionality required for future features. On some new island you might also find a small Pond with muddy water. It is now possible to choose the properties of the starting island while we also introduce 2 new island types as well.
To switch between stable and experimental game builds make sure game properties in your Steam client are set to either "Experimental" or "None" (which is the stable branch)

During the Summer we managed to add and upgrade the internal engine parts which are necessary for adding new features in the future. There is also a new complex system for creating multiple biomes on islands which enables the ability to create islands with a couple of different biomes at once. In example Forest, Jungle, Grassy, Rocky Hills, Ponds and Swamps mixed. We will have a big amount of different islands that find their way into the game continually in the future - of course along with many new building ingredients and new features. The game's underlying base engine - Unity - was upgraded to a more recent engine version and therefore we also made sure there's a full new ocean system for you to enjoy.

It is now possible to override the world generator and choose the properties of the Starting island in a new dialog window which we'll expand with new island types in future updates.

This new island generator's first introduction is the Archipelago small island group.

Another new island type is the Big Forest type, which - besides the new, taller trees - introduces the first "bigger" island topology. Later we'll have 2 even bigger ones.

Based on the new biome system we also finally made it to add the Pond along with the muddy water mechanic. Ponds can sometimes be found hidden on the Big Forest type island and only in this kind of island type. For muddy water to become clean you would need to boil it. After that you are safe to drink it or using it in cooking recipes. In its raw and unboilt state drinking it you will still receive a health bonus but expect health issues.

Besides we have set up a Patreon page for those who wish to support game development even more. If you like our game and want to help development significantly, we look forward to appreciate your support for the game correspondingly. Find the link here to our Patreon site here: www.patreon.com/g4gteam

Alpha 58.E1 Experimental - Tool Repair, Smoker
Tue, 23 November 2021

Hi everyone,

for this experimental build we were mainly focusing on issue fixing and we managed to add some new features too. The sharp tools can be Repaired to extend their usability. The Smoker offers meal preservation also in cold/wet weather.

To switch between stable and experimental game builds make sure game properties in your Steam client are set to either "Experimental" or "None" (which is the stable branch)

The tool Repairing mechanic has been finally added hence the spawn frequency of the sharp tools could be reduced. The maximum achievable quality is reduced by every Repair operation completed. The tools can be repaired by hitting them with a Carving Stone. More sophisticated method will be added later.

The new attach/detach mechanic for Doors & Windows replaces the - not very user friendly and intuitive - old system. The Doors & Windows should be attached at first from hand to their corresponding building modules and they need to be fastened with rope afterwards.

The Cold Smoker offers a good option for food preservation in wet and cold environment when the Meal Drier would not work properly. To have good quality smoke it is needed to add wet wood into is't fire (of course the kindling needs to be dry).

The Wall Torch Holder and the Wall Lantern Holder bring more light into the dark nights. The Wall Lantern Holder is quite useful to lit up the exterior of the Rafts on the ocean.

The campfires can be extinguished by pouring water on it. The bigger the fire the more water is needed. The wood gets wet, so the next ignition could be a little harder until the wood not dries up a little. The small campfires can be extinguished by destroying them too but that removes all the remaining wood from them.

Changelog:

New features:
1. Tool Repair mechanic
2. New Attach/Detach mechanic for Doors&Windows
3. Banana leaf Cold Smoker
4. Coconut leaf Cold Smoker
5. Torch Wall Holder
6. Lantern Wall Holder

General:
1. Campfire can be extinguished by water and by destroying (the small ones)

Fixes (highlights):
1. Sliding/falling of dragged and/or dropped objects and blueprints underground
2. Rafts disappearing when exiting the island cluster
3. Doors & Windows disappearing after returning home from far away islands

For the complete list of all (~42) bugfixes please see our hotfix list (english only):

Hotfix 1
Hotfix 2
Hotfix 3
Hotfix 4

For the next update we plan to continue to work on fixing more complex and hard to track down issues.  The additional plans include also the Mud material, Primitive Stove, Reworked tutorials, Map UI, Old Telescope, Old Pistol, Spear, Dolphins, Simple Quests, Building modules aging ... We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Alpha 59 - Fast Sail, Napping, Black Mangrove, Optimizations
Fri, 1 April 2022

Hi everyone,

for this build we were mainly focusing on issue fixing and we managed to add some new features too. The Fast Sailing reduces the time needed for discovering New clusters and the Napping  feature makes the gameplay faster for the players with slower timeflow values. The Black Mangrove provides Salt.

The Fast Sailing feature is a true game changer and we appreciate your patience and your help from the past weeks. When using Fast Sailing, searching for clusters is a breeze. What was previously a couple of real time hours is now a couple of minutes. Fast Sailing only works when you’re out on the Open Ocean. The Raft will begin to sail automatically in the actual direction for a given time interval until it gets close to a new cluster. Given the complexity of these new mechanics, the Fast Sail is fully automatic and we plan to add more interesting and unique features to it. Enjoy it and let us know what you think about this new feature.

You asked us to improve the sleeping mechanics and we are happy to announce that now you can take a nap in-game. The Napping feature makes the gameplay faster for the players with slower timeflow values. Planning your daily activities is now easier than ever. Players can now fast forward the time for shorter intervals during the day.

The Attach/Detach mechanic for Rudders, Sail Masts and Sails has been changed to work the same way like attaching Doors and Windows - Item needs to be equipped, aimed at the desired place and Attached. Strong Rope is required to fasten the item in its final location. By using this mechanic we eliminated many issues that were caused by the physics engine.

You’ve also asked for an easier way to harvest salt. We hope the new Black Mangrove tree will help. These trees grow on the shore around the tide level on some islands. They excrete a small amount of salt on their leaves which can be collected by the player.

The liquid mechanic was reworked to allow handling of multiple components at the same time. The first Multi component liquid is Salt water. This means that harvesting salt from salt water is dependent of the amount of water used. Less water gives a low salt amount and more water gives a higher salt amount.

The remaining changes and optimizations we made, will allow us in the future to spawn more rocks, sticks and various other items on the ground more efficiently. We also looked into the low FPS issues you were experiencing and are happy to announce that we optimized this too, but keep in mind that if you run the game on a low end computer you might still experience low FPS.

Changelog:

New features:

1. Fast Sail
2. Napping
3. Black Mangrove
4. Collecting Salt from Black Mangroves
5. Multi component liquid

General:

1. New Attach/Detach mechanic for Rudder, Sail Mast, Sail
2. Performance optimizations

Fixes (highlights):

1. Smoker issues
2. Sometimes disappearing Doors and Windows
3. Fruit and Fronds respawn on trees
4. Canoe and Raft sometimes disappears
5. Dropped objects falling into the ground
6. 'Starred' recipes' issues
7. UI stuck issues
8. Pond not acting as water (wet, floating, sounds)
9. Raft movement issues
10. Building blueprint placement issues
11. Sextant usage issues
12. Local & Global map drawing issues

For the complete list of all (~72) bugfixes please see our hotfix list (english only):

Hotfix 1
Hotfix 2
Hotfix 3
Hotfix 4
Hotfix 5
Hotfix 6
Hotfix 7
Hotfix 8
Hotfix 9
Hotfix 10

The next update will bring exciting new additions to the game. We will also continue fixing more complex issues. We plan to add Mud material, Primitive Stove, Water filtering, Reworked tutorials, Map UI, Old Telescope, Old Pistol, Spear, Dolphins, Simple Quests, Building modules aging and so on. We will work also on solving the new issues and we will recheck some older issues too. Other new features will be added as implementing the planned features and fixing issues will allow us to.

Alpha 60.E1 Experimental - Hill Island, Skill degradation, Item Holders
Fri, 17 June 2022

Hi everyone,

In this experimental build we focused mainly on fixing bugs. We also added exciting new features too, requested by the community. These are: Hill Island, Degrading Skills and the long awaited Item Holders.

Hill Island

You can now explore a brand new island of type “Big Forest Island with Hill feature”. Besides enjoying beautiful scenery views with various Hill types, this feature offers new possibilities to build a homestead in different weather conditions: While the wind is stronger at the top of the hill, the foothold of the hill can provide shade and protection.

Summer Schedule 2022
Mon, 27 June 2022

Summer is finally here and with it comes our schedule too

Hello Players!

What a fantastic first 6 months of the year we had! Thanks to your feedback and bug reports we managed to not only solve game-breaking bugs but also to implement new features requested by the community. Your contribution means the world to us! Really. Without your help we wouldn’t be where we are now. Thank you!

Thank you for your patience, dedication and most of all for sticking with us!

Now, that we released version
Alpha 60
on the normal branch, it’s time for us to recharge our batteries and enjoy a couple of days off. This means that regular updates will be paused as listed below. We will still be available on Discord for all of you and please drop us a message and tag us, especially if you encounter new, annoying bugs. Please also continue using the “Report bug” feature in the game menu. We don’t want to come back from our days off and have nothing to do

Here’s a rough plan of what you can expect during the coming weeks and months:
1.   Next regular update planned for mid September (Experimental branch)
2.   Same update will move to the normal branch around early October
3.   Starting early October we plan on resuming our normal schedule
4.   Regular updates will continue on the same 3 monthly rotation as usual

We are aware that some of you are used to more frequent game updates, however, releasing new features every week/month is very risky. We have experienced it in the past, where frequent updates introduced game-breaking bugs. Some of them still lurking around.

Escape the Pacific is now at a development stage where we can’t afford the risk of releasing fast updates anymore, like in the past years. Looking at the most recent approach where we release updates on a 3-monthly basis (sometimes with a small delay) we can see that these updates are more stable. While they still have minor bugs, these are in most cases easy to fix.

As you have already experienced on Discord
our team grew in volunteers
. This allows us to perform better and more intensive QA testing of new features, before we release them to the players.

Good things take time and a great community! The community is there... All we need now is more time

We wish you an enjoyable summer and we will see you in a couple of weeks well rested for the next adventure in the Pacific!
Thank you! Every single one of you!
You are amazing!

On behalf of G4G Team,
Peter

Saturday Survival Weekend - With the Devs
Wed, 6 July 2022

Tired of being shot into the atmosphere while sailing?
Because so many of you expressed interest in how to handle a raft properly, we came to the conclusion that it's time to host a live event this coming Saturday.

We will be teaching you how to build and handle a raft, designed to transport items without having to use item holders 🙂

Before we make the event public, we invite you to vote for a preferred time for the stream.

How to vote:

1. Use this link to open our Discord community server https://discord.gg/FGm2WjmbQU
2. Make sure you're in the channel polls
3. Scroll down to the latest post and vote accordingly with an emoji

Due to the complexity of time zones, voting has to happen on Discord, where you will see all available times in your local time.

Deadline for voting is Thursday
(check the exact local time in the Discord post).

News about the delayed update
Sat, 29 October 2022

Good stuff takes time. Sometimes more than initially anticipated. Continue reading to find out more!
Hello Survivors of the Pacific!

We are still here, working hard on the next update and we are sorry for letting you wait longer than usual.

The long awaited update (experimental branch) is now scheduled for the 18th November, this year. Postponing was not an easy decision for us, however, we didn’t want to release an update just for the sake of releasing one.

We aim for the updates to get better in quality and this sometimes requires more time and work than previously anticipated. We, the G4GT members, also had to deal with private matters in the past weeks. This is not an excuse, it’s us being transparent to you, because we care.

    Radu - UX/UI & Project Lead

The next update is focused on improvements requested by the community:

1.    There will be an improved time-flow system that will allow players to work smarter, not harder
2.    We will encourage the player to sail more by adding a surprise island (or maybe two!)
3.    A new source of clean water is also in the making.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Stay alive and we will see you on the 18th!

Peter - Dev & CEO

Alpha 61.E1: UI/UX Redesign, New Time-flow, New Island type, New Waves
Fri, 18 November 2022

Hello Survivors,

This experimental build brings you a redesigned Main Menu, a reworked Time Flow system, a new island type full of Mangrove trees (for you to use it as a salt mine) and an improved waves system with nicer looking shore waves.

How to switch between “Experimental” and “Normal” branches
In your Steam library, right-click Escape The Pacific and select “Properties”. A window will pop up. On the left select “Betas” and from the dropdown select “Experimental” to access this update. You can switch back to “None” to access the stable branch.

Watch this YouTube video where we showcase this update

Game Menu Redesign

As part of our continuous improvement, we started updating the user interface. The first step is a brand new Main Menu design. Starting a new game and customizing it, is now much simpler and more straightforward. In the future we want to further expand the game customization settings and give you more options to immerse yourself in the game. In future updates we will also redesign the in-game user interface.

Reworked Time-Flow System

Based on player feedback and due to many optimization issues with all the different time-flow values we had, we decided to rework the entire system. In short, we have removed all time flow options from the game and introduced a 24 hour time-flow mode. This mode is not selectable from the game settings as you are used to. This mode will run in the background and will advance the time of day based on time intervals for each action performed. This means that now 1 in-game day will technically last 24 real life hours and every action (craft, build, chop etc.) will speed up the time by the time it takes to complete. For example, every hit with the axe advances the time forward by 5 minutes.

Mangrove Island

Mangrove islands give the player the opportunity to gather the much needed salt to survive. Given the nature of Mangrove trees, the majority of the island is always submerged under water, which makes it not the most pleasant place to build a shelter.

Shore Waves

The newly introduced Shore waves not only make the ocean look nicer but also introduces a new level of gameplay difficulty. If you want to set sail the easy way, you now have to find the side of the island that has the lowest waves. The same applies for getting off the raft when reaching an island. The size of the waves depends on the wind conditions. As a rule of thumb, the waves are the highest on the up-wind side of an island and are the lowest on the opposite side.

Changelog:

New features:

1. Redesigned Main Menu
2. Reworked Time-Flow System
3. Mangrove Island
4. Shore Waves

We will continue prioritizing fixing new and also old bugs.

The next planned additions are: Reworked tutorials, new Clean Water source, Mud material, Primitive Stove, Water filtering, Map UI, Old Telescope, Old Pistol, Spear, Dolphins, Simple Quests, aging of Building modules and many more.

We have set up a Patreon for those who wish to support game development. Announcement page is here: Patreon News.

The entire team is thanking you for your support, suggestions and most of all for your patience.

Do you like our game and want to help even more during development? We look forward to every positive review posted on our Steam page and thank everyone who decides to support us along the way!

Please be aware that during early access phase game code could change as much as affecting gameplay when loading/saving savegames from earlier versions. To always be on the safe side make sure to start a new game with each update. Thank you!
