News on the next update to make VRS F/A-18E SUPERBUG & VRS TACPACK COMBAT SYSTEM  compatible with P3D v6

by VRS Varmint
Sun Oct 29, 2023

TacPack and Superbug support has finally arrived for P3D v6 with P3D version support up to 6.0.34.31011 (HF4). Note NOT HF 5. Those of you waiting for HF 5 support will have to wait bit longer. Please check your version of P3D prior to upgrading your license or newly purchasing TacPack for P3D v6. You MUST have version 6.0.34.31011 or less!

In addition to initial support for P3D v6 HF4, TacPack/Superbug 1.7 makes various optimizations and improvements, mostly to the TPM and ACM. Version 1.7 is a free update for all existing owners of the TacPack or Superbug, provided you have active maintenance.

Please note that simply upgrading TacPack to 1.7 from a previous version, DOES NOT MEAN IT WILL RUN ON P3D v6! VRS licenses TacPack on a per-platform basis, and that still means you must either purchase an upgrade from your existing license to a v6 license or purchase a new license entirely if you wish to keep running your old license on a previous version of P3D. This only applies to the TacPack, not the Superbug. All versions of the Superbug or P3D x64 will work under P3D v6 as long as you update it to 1.7 along with the TacPack.

Again, there is no charge for TacPack or Superbug 1.7 updates, but you MUST have active maintenance in order to download them. The latest versions should be available via your customer page provided your maintenace is current; Superbug 1.7 supports all 64-bit versions of P3D. Again, there IS a charge of you want to MOVE to a new version of P3D (i.e. v5 to v6). To upgrade/move TacPack licenses from v4 or v5 to v6, please see "Existing P3D v4/v5 retail customers moving to P3D v6", below).

New Customers:
P3D v6 Personal Superbug/TacPack Bundles are now available which provide a $10 savings over purchasing the products individually. Purchase links at the bottom of the TacPack and Superbug product pages are now active, and the storefront is now stocked.

Existing P3D v4/v5 retail customers moving to P3D v6:
TacPack and Superbug v1.7 are available for anyone currently running P3D v4 or v5. v1.7 supports P3D v6, however running under v6 requires a new TacPack license specifically for P3D v6. These may be UPGRADED for up to 50% off the full license price ($29.95). Upgrades from v4 to v6 are slightly more [at] $39.95. Note that you do NOT need active maintenance on your "old" license in order to upgrade it to a new, v6 license. Your old license will become invalid and your new license will take over.

To UPGRADE TacPack FROM v4/v5 TO v6 (this is not required for Superbug):
•   Go to the VRS Customer Portal
•   Enter your VRS Customer ID and Customer Password
•   After logging in, press Renewals & Upgrades
•   Locate your qualifying product license and click the license ID for that product
•   Available upgrades for that license will appear as an add-to-cart option for that license

Again, it is not required to upgrade your Superbug license (if you own it), but you DO need to make sure you get it updated to 1.7!

Existing P3D v4/v5 customers STAYING on your existing version of P3D that wish to update to 1.7:
The 1.7 update is available from your customer portal under Downloads as long as Maintenance is active. If Maintenace has expired for your license:
To UPDATE an existing TacPack OR Superbug to 1.7 (this is not required for Superbug):
•   Go to the VRS Customer Portal
•   Enter your VRS Customer ID and Customer Password
•   After logging in, press Renewals & Upgrades
•   If your maintenance has expired for the license you want to update, click the license ID for that product
•   Locate your qualifying product license and click the license ID for that product
•   Maintenance renewal options will appear as add-to-cart options for that license
•   Repeat for any other qualifying products that you would like to extend Maintenace for
•   Continue to checkout with your maintenance renewals.
•   Once maintenance is renewed, downloads will be re-enabled, allowing you to download the update.

Commercial/institutional customers:
Upgrades from TacPack for P3D Pro v4 or v5 to P3D Pro v6 are now available. Please contact your VRS commercial sales representative for upgrade pricing.

(1) Important compatibility note: If you're considering moving TacPack and/or Superbug to P3D v6, it's important to remember that upgrading P3D beyond the supported version ranges will BREAK the Superbug and TacPack immediately. We MUST patch our products after every new P3D/FSX release. Current P3D v6 support covers v5.0 through v5.3. If Lockheed comes out with, for example, a v5.4 and you update before a compatible TacPack is ready, it will break.
