DOW Will Stick With 4.019
« on: December 25, 2017, 02:55:35 PM »
Due to the bugs associated with 4.023 being too serious, we will be sticking with 4.019 for a while.

Rotar in the last post says the elevation bug has something to do with terrain.

Like most of the SB releases, the beta testing has to be questioned.

Yes, and here's the latest example of that in 4.023: http://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/11923-4023-installation-problem/

OK, regarding AI gunner scanning:

The AI is actually attempting to "scan the actual horizon" now, adjusting its scan elevation depending on the terrain around it, rather than constantly scanning at 0 degrees EL.  Scanning the horizon is good behavior in hilly environments, since 0 EL often means looking at the dirt, and it often meant that when you drive up on hill tops then your gun was aiming at the sky, however it seems like the elevation in which the AI elevates to the terrain is a bit too high.  We will look into improving this behavior in an update.

In the mean time, less hilly maps shouldn't cause a problem.

This boils my blood.....basically use less hilly terrain as a work around. As every they have failed to deliver again. All these releases have been done just to appease the community, by making them think that it will keep people off their backs about the promise of better terrain.

You said it. It's not a workable kludge, because we can't control the terrain short of changing the map altogether. And now the the M88 glitch is back: http://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/11925-4023-return-of-the-towing-bug/

There are usually bugs, some quite bad in the SB updates. Having an improved beta testing team/period would help.

In the mean time  V4.019 it is.

Yes. Anyway, the M88 bug may not be back, instead what I linked to may be the result of trying to tow a vehicle through a tree: http://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/11925-4023-return-of-the-towing-bug/?tab=comments#comment-177737

I tested 4.023 yesterday on one mission. It was unplayable. I was in a gunner position and mu CO was commanding me to to disengage while I was looking directly at a couple of BMP-2s that were coming right at me. I still have m 4.019 installation files so I will revert back to it after more testing. It's worth mentioning that it wasn't a very hilly terrain. I was on a back of agents slope with a hull down position while enemy forces were moving over a slightly undulating terrain.

UPDATE: Purging and rebuilding navmesh seemed to resolve the problem I played the same scenario and all targets were identified properly. I was in several units and each time bot TC and gunner identified targets correctly. 113 destroyed units vs.7 lost, which means that other units engaged their targets.

There are more bugs than changes. Or at least bugs outweigh the positives.
