some basic question(s)
« on: June 26, 2016, 12:02:58 AM »
Hi. In part to "motivate" Ron for that last effort to release patch 1.08 for WWIIE  8), but also because there really are no operational wargames that I know of that cover these conflicts, I bought MDE.

I noticed some stability issues - the game hanged and some visual glitches on the Command Panel (maybe due to the fact that I opened up a lot of scenarios in sequence), but have not played a turn yet.

Simple questions:

- I notice that if we play against the AI, we get a prompt asking us if we want to load up a "Computer Opponent plan file", and we can then select from a list of txt files. I presume those are AI scripts ? What happens if we do not chose a plan file, or chose a file from other scenarion ?

- kind of weird the wording of the computer opponent ("Arab" or "Coalition"), when the majority of scenarios are either Israel vs Arabs or Iran vs Iraq...I think that in the Iran-Iraq war "Coalition" means Iran ?

Franciscus,I haven't played MDE for a while but if I remember it right the computer opponent plan is for specially written AI scripts. If you click "yes"and select one of the files that are shown, the computer AI  doesn't do anything and it's units just stay where they are.

Thank you, kemmo, for taking the time to answer my post  :)

I would still love to hear from Ron, though, regarding the AI plan files...

Two good questions.

We struggled to determine what to call each side given the variety of the scenarios.  Arab - Israeli would not work for the Iran - Iraq scenarios, and the two scenarios Allies - Iraq.  We settled on Arab - Coalition, and put who is on each side in the Help files for each scenario.

For the AI, it is possible to create a file (script) that can be loaded to play for the AI part.  If you do not choose a file, then the code AI plans and executes.

Have not seen any instability in MDE, but have not played it in a while.  We will look at that as part of the upgrade.

Thanks for the interest,
Ron

One more note:  The format for building a script is in the Help files.
