Tacview 1.6.4 is now available!

This intermediate release is manly focused on fixes and brings several improvements which have been requested for a long time (like the look-at dogfight camera).

Tacview 1.7 is already in development and will offer improved modules and tools related to customization. Like a new and smart database for the objects of the battlefield, as well as new module to manage navaids, airspaces, runways, ILS and so on.

Enjoy!

Thx for the BMS nordic theater support  :thumbsup
Anyway I've found a weird bug with Tacview 1.6.4 ! Looks like all the aircraft are pointed offset left 20° or so  :crazy

May be the problem has to do with the convergence of lines of longitude when you go that far North.

Wow, that’s a nice one! This reminds me the struggle with DCS World heading “bug”. I think that you guessed right about the origin of the problem, it is probably created because of the ratio of longitude vs latitude so close to the pole.

Can you do the following tests for me?
  • Check in each approximate corner of the map (like NW NE SW SE), if you get roughly the same distortion in two significant directions like heading +45 deg and +225 deg.
  • Do you get the same distortion in the middle of the map?
  • Can you quickly check if you get the same kind of distortion in the Korea map?
  • If the problem is only visible with the Nordic theater, can fly without wind and take note of the accurate difference displayed by Tacview in your heading vs your track in two geographically significant points of the map.

Sorry to ask you for so much testing, but I am not proficient in BMS and this would take me hours do to this, a time, I think, many would like me to spare on the real-time telemetry for BMS ;)

In any case, thank you for the feedback!

Here are the results of the test you've asked for:
  • Check in each approximate corner of the map (like NW NE SW SE), if you get roughly the same distortion in two significant directions like heading +45 deg and +225 deg.
When flying from the SW corner on heading 45° nose of the plane in tacview is offset 20° left (in BMS everthing is ok)
When flying from the SE corner on heading 315° nose of the plane in tacview is offset 20° right (in BMS everthing is ok)
When flying from the NE corner on heading 225° nose of the plane in tacview is offset 20° left (in BMS everthing is ok)
When flying from the NW corner on heading 135° nose of the plane in tacview is offset 20° right (in BMS everthing is ok)
  • Do you get the same distortion in the middle of the map?
I don't have any distortion when I'm flying in the middle of the mapI do have distortion on the middle of the map
  • Can you quickly check if you get the same kind of distortion in the Korea map?
I don't have any distortion when I'm flying on the Korean map
  • If the problem is only visible with the Nordic theater, can fly without wind and take note of the accurate difference displayed by Tacview in your heading vs your track in two geographically significant points of the map.
I have no differences between heading and track on Nordic theater

see attachments for ACMI

Edit ! wait I'm currently doing more test and it looks like we don't have any distortions when flying N, E , S and W.
Currently doing 360 ° ACMI from all corners on the map to give you some materials

Ok so here are the new tests !

In those tests I did a 360 ° starting facing North and stoping 10 seconds every 45 °.
So each ACMI have a 10s trail at heading 0° , 45° , 90° , 135° , 180°, 225°, 270° and 315°

I did it in every corner and in the middle of the Nordic map.
I have the distortion effect on all those locations except when flying at heading 0°, 90°, 180° and 270°
I don't have any distortion when flying on KTO theater whatever the heading I'm flying BUT if I'm opening the Korean ACMI on the Nordic theater inside tacview I do have the same distortion

New ACMIs

Just to let you know ... Nordic theater have been updated today with from 2.0 to 2.1
I didn't installed the update yet so I don't know if it changes anything to that bug for the moment

I found the problem!

There was a slight distortion for all Falcon 4.0 terrains, but the terrains closer to the poles are very distorted. For instance, Nordic has a 3:1 ratio between the latitude and longitudes coordinates! When you are looking the terrain from inside the sim, you cannot see the problem, and it does not really matter. But when you try to display the same data in the real-world, it is starting to be very clear… Ostsee was noticeably affected as well.

I have fixed the display "bug" for all terrains in Tacview 1.7 beta 2. I integrated the latest Nordic 2.1 too.

Thanks again for the prefect sample data, without it, it would have taken me much more time to understand and fix the issue :thumbsup
