BELU ISAF 15
22 June 2010  Mazari Sharif, Northern Afghanistan  0600 hrs.

1) Situation:

The Taliban have emerged in Afghanistan again.  Last night an estimated force of around 150 insurgents stormed the city of Mazari Sharif.  Humint sources indicate that a high ranking member is traveling among them.  We believe it is the enemy's intent to establish a base of operations in the city as a launch point for infiltration further into Afghanistan.  A quick strike will disable enemy efforts to dig in and will hopefully produce some valuable intelligence...if we can safely extract the target.

Enemy Forces:

Intelligence estimates a company sized force of infantry armed with small arms and RPGs is currently occupying the city.  Intel also suggests the Taliban may have gotten their hands on some abandoned Iraqi T-72s as well, so watch your approach.  Recon teams report the two southernmost bridges and the east bridge have been destroyed, but could not observe the north bridges due to heavy covering fire from an insurgent demo team traveling north.

Friendly Forces:

The only capable forces in the area consist of one plt. of Leopards of the 2nd/4th Lanciers Rgt. (Lima) and one plt. of the Carabiniers/Grenadiers and their Piranha III-Cs (Charlie). The Air Component (Alpha) will assist in dropping Special Forces Unit Flawinne (Foxtrot) to secure the remaining bridge(s) before the insurgents have a chance to destroy them.  The 1st/3rd Lanciers Rgt. is in the area southeast of the city, but cannot assist due to repair/resupply operations being conducted by the 2nd Engineers (Echo).


2) Mission:

Alpha squadron will drop Foxtrot in the vicinity of the bridges (PL Hunter).  Once a bridge is secure, Lima and Charlie sections will raid the city (obj. Tiger) and provide cover for Foxtrot to secure the target for transport.  Then, Charlie will escort the target to the extraction zone (obj. Lion), where Alpha squadron will airlift him to a secure location.


3) Execution:

Alpha and Foxtrot sections will depart immediately for the bridges.  Lima and Charlie sections (you) will await HQ's command to proceed towards the city.  2/L will advance via trigger 1 once Charlie has taken up positions outside the city.  You can use trigger 2 to advance your PCs once you have cleared the way to the city with your tanks. Upon arriving at the target building, use trigger 3 to call in the Special Forces.  Try to keep the area around the building clear of threats, SF Flawinne won't risk insertion if the enemy has you outnumbered.  The extraction route is marked on your map, keep it clear of enemy forces as well.  Finally, escort the target to the extraction zone and use trigger 4 to call Alpha squadron back for pick up.

Note: A small number of civilians remain in the city. Watch your fires! We don't need a PR mess right now.


Scheme of Maneuver:

Once across PL Hunter, Lima and Charlie sections should gather at obj. Jaguar before proceeding on to obj. Tiger.  The minaret in the small village outside the city (obj. Puma) is an excellent overwatch position. Try to get some troops up there. The route through the city has been left to your discretion and should be adapted to fit any threats you encounter.  The building indicated by the humint sources has been marked on your map as obj. Lynx.  Remember, the town is crawling with insurgents.  Advance with extreme caution.  Use bounding maneuvers and overwatch positions wherever possible.  Some Special Forces units should remain at PL Hunter and possibly obj. Lion to cover the extraction.  Echo CO is headed to the repair/resupply zone now to determine the status of the 1st/3rd Rgt.  You can ride with him for the first stage, he could use a hand on the guns. Just don't get  in the way.


Prohibition of Fire Support:

In an effort to garner local support, a prohibition has been placed on the use of fire and heavy air support near heavily populated civilian areas.  Therefore no support will be provided.

Engineer support:

As mentioned earlier, the 2nd Engineers are in the area assisting the 1st/3rd Rgt.  They are on hand if needed.

***Squad A-3/1/C is equipped with a micro UAV.***


4) Service and Support:

Supply: Fuel, ammo and repairs are available from the 2nd Engineers as well, but due to the fast strike nature of the mission we do not expect they will be needed.

As much as I'd love to play that mission I'm afraid that I'll have to skip it again. My GF has birthday on Sunday, so me hopping into a virtual tank may not be the evening she imagined for the day.  :badidea

Forget about the terrain update, forget about new vehicles, forget about everything else... at this point I'd be happy if they just fixed that one bug. I think I've had it happen every TGIF where I've had a PC, it's so annoying.

I think it can be fixed by the mission designer. I think that Apocalypse's Cordon and Raid has a similar glitch, and he was able to fix it.

That bug with the infantry has been there for a long time. Quite a few times esims said it was fixed......Always better to make sure that the serous bugs and issues are fixed before adding new features  :Wag finger

Good mission, Rinix well distracted the attention of enemy tanks, which allowed me to destroy them.
I think in the city we acted wrong. We were in a hurry. We had to let the infantry go ahead. There would be no loss of tanks and PC.
At the end of the mission, my BMP was standing next to the house into which our special forces were going. Perhaps because of this, the soldiers did not boot into the car.
