Driver and Gunnery Training

Brief

Patria, a trusted provider of defense, security, and aviation life-cycle services and technology solutions, used VBS as the virtual environments for its AMV Part Task Trainer (PTT) and Nemo Training Simulator.

“The AMV PTT answers to a need for a cost-effective mission and procedure driver training,” said Kimmo Jämsen, Product Manager / Training Systems, Patria. “The Nemo Training Simulator is developed for customers who seek a high-fidelity environment for Gunner-Commander training.”

“Virtual training lowers costs to save ammunition, save on maintenance, and there is no need for firing safety arrangements,” Jämsen added.

The AMV PTT combines the virtual training environment of VBS and models the AMV driver’s position, providing a cost-effect solution with high training value for Patria AMV driver procedure and mission training. It familiarizes students with the driver’s environment and provides interfaces for multiple training scenarios. VBS provides the virtual prism view and vehicle cameras for the driver.

The Patria Nemo Training Simulator provides a high-fidelity environment for efficient Gunner-Commander training. The Nemo Training Simulator integrates VBS with the Nemo Fire and Turret Management software used in the actual vehicle. Through VBS Fusion-created plugins, VBS provides the virtual environment and gunner camera. The simulator allows trainees to prepare for challenging scenarios such as malfunctions and other dangerous tasks.

By using VBS, Patria is able to integrate or combine multiple simulators to create a tactical crew training system. For instance, the AMV PTT can be used as a Driver Station and the Nemo Training Simulator as Gunner-Commander station for AMV Nemo crew training.

“VBS has been easy to integrate into our solutions because it’s commonly known for our customers,” said Jämsen. “In some cases, customers already have VBS-compatible training areas and other additional content. Another major advantage with VBS is connectivity to other simulators.”

Patria has operations and projects in countries such as Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Poland, USA, United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
