Introducing the MilViz DHC-2 Beaver

In the twenty year time span between the Beaver's maiden flight in August 1947 and the end of production in 1967, a total of 1657 DHC-2 Beavers were manufactured. These well-engineered, sturdy aircraft, designed to handle everything that could be thrown at them, soon found themselves spread out across the globe. From frigid Arctic and Antarctic extremes, hot jungles, lush tropics, sandy deserts, there is very little of this planet that the iconic Beaver hasn't laid wheels, floats or skis on.

Honoured as one of the top ten Canadian engineering achievements of the 20th century, the Beaver still takes to the skies in large numbers to this day. It continues to largely fill the same role that it was originally designed for, hauling people and equipment to the furthest and most remote spots on the planet.

Our simulation of the famed Beaver is designed to deliver everything that you could ask for from such an aircraft. From replicating the sound of the nine cylinder R-985 Wasp Junior radial engine, to emulating all the routines and tricks of flying an aerial workhorse, to tuning a realistic flight model based on real world experience, we've created an aircraft that absolutely begs to be flown.

Unparalleled Versatility

Not only can you take your Beaver wherever you might want to fly, now you can also configure it for the role you'd like it to have as well. We've included four separate configurations for landing gear: Standard wheels, amphibious floats, skis, tundra tires; each model complete with a tuned flight model that accurately reflects differences in performance.

In addition, we've also included two distinct fuselage models with individual roles; the original stock fuselage with the small round rear-most windows is outfitted for carrying cargo, while a cabin modified with large rear windows is nicely appointed for carrying passengers. The load-out on both versions is selectable from within the simulator, with the cargo even shown (or hidden) inside the cabin.

In-Depth Functionality
Our DHC-2 steps far beyond standard simulator functionality to deliver a complete, thoroughly immersive experience. The various subsystems are not only extensively emulated, but they also interact with each other. Starting the engine requires fuel pressure to be built up in the lines, as well as proper priming, in addition to taking into account battery voltage and engine temperature.

Flooding conditions are able to occur, requiring the pilot to follow the instructions in the provided flight manual to clear. The electrical system is closely simulated, with both the ammeter and the voltmeter responding to inputs and load, as well as operable circuit breakers present for key systems.

The dangerous effects of icing is also simulated, with serious consequences for disregarding potentially dangerous flight conditions. Ice accumulation can be hazardous and lead to airspeed loss and a stall; freezing rain can disrupt static instruments and cause incorrect readings. Of course, that's if you remembered to remove the pitot tube cover to start with!
Attention to Detail

Our DHC-2 features the quality workmanship that we're known for. High resolution, professional textures with extremely detailed 3D modelling brings to life both the inside and the outside of the aircraft. All gauges, switches and controls are smoothly animated and usable, to the extent that we've even included a functioning throw-over ability on the yoke. Also included is a hefty amount of eye-candy, such as chocks, tie-downs, cold cover and control locks.

Multi-Platform Support
The MilViz DHC-2 Beaver package supports a full range of platforms, in a single downloadable installer:

•   FSX: Acceleration

Pretty nice so far, only drawback I have is no straight float version just amphib.  I can get over it but I really wish they would release a straight float version.

The panel is beautiful though and comes with full blown REX weather radar if you want to use it and a nice default MilViz GPS suite.

Major Update

This update adds a number of fixes, features and improvements, such as a new option in the MVAMS utility to allow for selection between a pointed and rounded propeller spinners, and adverse aircraft behaviour if landing on water with the amphibious floats with the wheels extended.

One significant change is that the exterior textures have been fixed in regards to symmetrical uv mapping issues where elevators, ailerons and parts of the wing struts were mapped on to the same uv space. This meant that painters weren't able to put words on them or paint camo patterns. The good news is that this has been rectified; unfortunately the bad news is that all repaints will have to be redone.

We recommend a full uninstall of the DHC-2 prior to installing this version. Please access the latest copy of the downloadable installer

DHC-2 Spray n' Play Expansion Pack

Take your Beaver even further!

Venture out on new adventures or dive in and get your hands dirty with our Spray n' Play Expansion Pack for the MilViz DHC-2 Beaver!

This expansion pack adds a STOL wing modification kit, straight floats, and a agricultural-focused model with a completely functional crop duster.

If there's one thing that all DHC-2 Beavers have in common, it's that you'd be hard-pressed to find two of them closely alike. When you're considering an aircraft that's been used for nearly every hard working aviation purpose imaginable for nearly 7 decades, it's not difficult to imagine why. Each airframe still flying today has a rich heritage that can be traced back through countless pilots and a variety of roles.

More so than perhaps any other aircraft in existence, the reliable and venerable Beaver has been tweaked and modified and changed to fit any purpose that it's given. Of course, this makes developing such an aircraft a unique challenge! We're fully aware that it would be take a lifetime to simulate every single variant of the Beaver, but with the multitude of options we offered in our original release, we're positive that we covered a decent 'cross-section' of typical aircraft that have been in the air at one time or another.

But of course, it's impossible to resist the urge to take it even further. With such a diverse amount of inspiration to draw from, there's certainly no shortage of ideas. And while we may disappoint a few individuals by not equipping this particular aircraft with TacPack, we're very sure that the wide range of additions we've crafted for our Beaver will more than make up for it!

Straight Floats
On wheels, the Beaver is undeniably stocky and imposing; on floats, the aircraft is suddenly transformed into something significantly more elegant. It's a fact that the lines of the Beaver were designed with the horizontal positioning of the fuselage in mind.

For the original release of the aircraft, we had included amphibious floats so as to maximise the versatility of the aircraft in the simulator. However, there are many to which a Beaver means floats - straight floats, unsullied by the addition of retractable wheels and the mechanical workings that implies.

For the Spray n' Play expansion pack, we have installed clean straight floats for all your aquatic needs!

STOL Wing Modification Kit
Although it's overall usefulness on such a well designed aircraft (already known for it's remarkable STOL characteristics) can be debatable, there's no denying just how purposeful those signature drooping wing tips look!

For our expansion pack, we've modelled one of the most popular STOL kits commonly found on current Beavers. It includes the aforementioned drooping wing tips, a modified leading edge, wing fences and flap gap sealing. We've then went and provided STOL variants of the wheeled models, the straight float equipped model, and the wheel/ski model.

And not just content with looks, all STOL variants have had their flight dynamics tailored appropriately!

Crop Dusting Model
Alas, it can't all be play - sometimes you have to roll your sleeves up and get to work!

Our expansion pack includes a purpose-built Beaver with crop dusting equipment installed. The crop duster is fully functional: Aircraft weight is dynamically altered while the dusting equipment is in operation, meaning that you can take off fully loaded and return to base empty once you're finished in the fields.

All standard liveries are usable on the crop duster, however we've also included a new livery just for this version.

Award Winning Excellence
Included with the 6 new versions of the aircraft this package adds, are all the same outstanding features present in the base aircraft: Configurable fuselage styles, different propellers, selectable visual options, navigation options, in-depth systems modeling, custom start-up routine, icing failures, WX Advantage weather radar, and most recently added - an accurately simulated custom KAP 140 autopilot.

Same great aircraft... now just more of it to enjoy!

Price:
Expansion Pack Only$14.99
MilViz DHC-2 Beaver + Expansion Pack $49.99

However, we are giving all current Beaver owners who purchased directly from us a $5 discount on the expansion pack for the next 30 days, bringing the price down to $9.99.
