DCS: AJS37 Viggen (Beta) - Screenshots and Quick Look

The beta for the AJS37 Viggen, developed by Leatherneck Simulation has been out for more than a week. This version of the Viggen is an attack aircraft in essence, featuring a very nice array of weaponry and capabilities. And, yeah, it is very photogenic.

In this blog post, a quick look at the DCS Viggen. More screenshots than anything else ...

Flying so low that you can smell the Black Sea! Anti-ship missions are always very interesting. In this mission I'm flying against a Russian frigate.

The Viggen, cruising off the coast of Georgia.

One of my first model planes (Airfix, I think it was) was the Viggen. I remember the delta shaped wing very well.

The Viggen holds the distinction of being the first canard design to be produced in quantity. Canard means "a small forewing or foreplane is placed forward of the main wing of a fixed-wing aircraft". Amazingly, it first flew in 1967, entered service in 1971 and was retired was retired from service by the Swedish Air Force in 2005! It was replaced by the newer Saab JAS 39 Gripen. Woohoo!!! That's 34 years, baby!

Cheers in February 2017

That is a good service life. The USAF B-52, C-130, and T-38 have all been around for over 50 years. Production of the B-52 ceased in 1962!

The Viggen is a beautiful plane!
