D.O.W. Saturday Mission 28/03/15 @ GMT20:00

You can watch it live.  You do NOT need Steel Beasts.

D.O.W. 4-7 CAV Phase III of Campaign by Cougar11

This will be part two of the mission from the save.

This scenario is a simulation and does not have any political message.

Mission Summary :
From HVOC 6: Ok Troop! Alpha troop was reduced quit a bit in the two phases they engaged in. A Greek infantry battalion minus has moved in to the town of St. Joseph to deter the enemy from moving on the town will additional forces could arrive. During the last phase of the enemy attack, they moved in a infantry battalion and a mechanized armor company to the south. They have taken the town and university of Thessonalinki. There are three bridges, a railway station, the airport, and the town and university under their control. Bravo troop with additional mechanized infantry platoons is tasked with moving south clearing out the infantry in the city, securing the airport and railway station, the three bridge locations with blocking positions, and setting up a screen line to the east north east. Bravo troop will move south clearing the university, and then the city proper. I suggest the mechanized forces take on the task of clearing the infantry, and the use of our armor to move in and deal with any armor threats that the IFV’s need help with. This will be a slow and methodical operation, and you can expect losses to infantry and IFV’s. Maintain as much of your forces as possible. If we are not able to clear and hold the southern flank, we will not be able to get the needed supplies from the logistical locations, and the enemy is sure to act on it and attack.

Current forces are reduced. 11-16 IFVs and 5 tanks without calling reinforcements. Mission is the same, and some mopping up in the city must take place, and then the continuation of the push to the East.

3 Brads, 14 dismounts.  Ammo is green.

4/1/B has all 3 Brads, but the dismounts took a beating.

We get to play GI Joe in the dark, where our superior NVG gives us the advantage!  YAY!

Good mission.  Lots of equipment and troops remaining while A troop recovers (which may take a VERY long time).  Three engagements, three victories.  The enemy is on the run...at least in a desperate situation.  Lesson learned:  Infantry does not do well at night in SB  >:(

We never saw Asid on Saturday, could have used his help at the rear supply trains  8).  I sure hope he's working on all of our campaign ribbons, parades, promotions, parties and under-the-table wealth  ;D

It was a good mission. The night environment was different, and a first for me (in SB that is). I laughed at myself when I realized I was stumbling around in the dark in Observer view and finally asked someone if there was an NVG view. Cougar was kind enough to point out what should have been obvious to me. Your patience does not go without notice, Cougar.

The Map: I thought the trees were bad enough as it is, but there are bushes (or as the Knights of Ni say unto you, "a shrubbery") that apparently are just as effective at diverting and slowing down steel beasts. It is difficult to become immersed in a simulation where a 62 tonne tank is unable to drive over some bushes.

In any event, I was able to make my way through the field of bushes with my three STRVs and keep up with Wardancer's units and take the airfield.

I look forward to more missions for this campaign. To answer Cougar's question about what we could do next; I would expect a real enemy force to try an take back the objectives we just seized. Maybe they'll go after St. Joseph again, and we'll have to detach some tanks and PCs to attack north into the enemy's flank to disrupt the attack.

I think we broke their capabilities

Unless the DOW squadron is going up against an army, I believe we have the enemy on the ropes.  Of course, I'm only a platoon lieutenant and unable to see the big picture.  However, it's entirely possible we may be on the offensive from here on out.  I'm sure Major Colebrook (demoted from blasting his own troops) will brief us in.   :D

That is my opinion.  The enemy just might be very disturbed and come after us with some serious attitude.

Maybe to get the full real life immersion, we will sit in the next mission for two hours to simulate two days of recovery operations. LOL :P

Recovery?
« Reply #6 on: April 02, 2015, 03:16:45 PM »
We don't need no stinkin' recovery!!!!   We have one more full strength troop (C), a tank company (D), and plenty of squadron air support that we haven't used yet.  If we let the enemy recover, they will become stronger.

That or we get weaker  :P
