Well, it generally takes 1 GTX 1080 or 1 TITAN X Pascal (the black one) to maintain 4K at 60 FPS, so 4 of those in SLI would be needed for just 1 of these monsters. And Nvidia has discontinued support for 3-card and 4-card SLI game profiles, marking a trend away from multi-graphics card setups.

At 27" 8k res is useless,

4k is barely okay at 30" but is borderline. You need at least 45 inch in order to have benefit from it at desk distance.

Well it is simple, the average human beeing will from a certain distance not see the difference as the pixeldensity has become to heigh. This distance is together with the emitted light key to the durabilitiy (watch time without headace and eyedamage). With the bigger monitor the distance to the edges increases so the usable pixeldensity becomes lower. This is why I was talking about 45+ inch.

AnandTech's estimate is that 8K monitors will drop to the current prices of 4K monitors by 2020.

My dear, 32 inches... and that concidered they adviced not to take a 4k display under 40 inches due to pixel density...
