Epic is an understatement. I ran into the enemy way before I expected to. Foolish on my part, but I was plodding down the road in column and bumped into the enemy who used cavalry to wreak havoc on my lead brigade. My attack was disorganized from that point on, and I could not get my cannon into place for the longest time. Then came a point in time where I needed the cannon to move forward and to my chagrin they were stuck behind a fence. There is a nuance to employing cannon. The map's terrain was a challenge as well. Those damn fences! Worse than trees in SB!

As it turns out, my gun crews were goofing off while trying to negotiate obstacles:

Thank you Beef for posting the stats and video.

The problems were 2 fold as I see them.

1. We were not prepared for them. We both came upon them quickly and didn't have much time to deploy.

2. The terrain. This was a very hilly map. With many obstacles. We have gotten used to fighting in the open. This was something different. We struggled to manoeuvre. The enemy were already in place at the objective and ready to receive us. It did not help that we had to go downhill, cross the river then go uphill again.

We managed to hold it together though. Many men lost their lives. It looked bad many times. The enemy even flanked me  ???

We live on to fight again!

I will post more here when I can.

French = Beef (LeBeof CIC) and I (blue), AI = Allies (red).

We had to take the objective in the East at Lerida. Full F.O.W. We had no contacts at any point appearing on the map.

I started to the south of LeBeof. He gave me the order to use the road and travel quickly to Penalva and hold for further orders SE of Lerida

The enemy started to manoeuvre towards LeBeof as they had spotted him early. I on the other hand had gone unnoticed. I did have to negotiate a fast flowing river. That bridge looked like it had seen better days.

LeBeof marched straight into the enemy cavalry who were out scouting. It took him bu surprise. It would be a few hours before he recovered.

Top left hand corner of image is the enemy cavalry charging LeBeof. I am the general in the picture

The enemy pushed forward infantry and LeBeof fell back. I came over a hill and faced the enemy. There was a large force waiting for me at the objective. I tried to form up but it was tight. The terrain was not sympathetic to my orders.

I received word via courier from LeBeof that he had engaged the enemy. I continued to form up and tried to negotiate the terrain.

LeBeof regained his composure and started to move forward. Not to soon as the enemy started to press him harder with brigades of infantry eager to taste his blood. We each found a good position for our artillery battery. As did the enemy!

We fought hard. It was uphill to Lerida. The going was slow. The enemy artillery took many lives. Lebeof managed to push back the enemy in the north. I however started to get flanked. The enemy were moving behind a ridge.

I started to move to engage the enemy moving on my flank.

LeBeof was pushing the enemy back into the woods to my north. I managed to counter the immediate threat from the enemy flanking manoeuvre. However the enemy fell back behind the ridge and reformed. The enemy artillery north of Lerida was still effective! We kept our heads and gave them volley after volley.

We though the day was won but LeBeof faced a push from the enemy in the north. They were not done. They still had cavalry and artillery. LeBeof gave the order to take Lerida. I pushed hard. He dealt with the artillery in the north. It escaped barely into the woods. I charged the enemy with my cavalry. The enemy infantry fell back behind a ridge. The formed up with the idea of forcing us out of Lerida.

I had other ideas. I had the objective and was not giving it up. LeBeof started to mop up the remainder of the enemy in the north. It was a hard won battle. Many lives lost. We did overcome!

The results. The enemy received a bonus for having held the objective for so long.
