Last living Doolittle Raider recalls America's revenge attack
« on: October 03, 2016, 05:04:27 PM »
From CNN (3 days ago)!

Out of the 80 raiders, only one remains. 101 years old retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, Richard E. "Dick" Cole.

I remember reading the book "Thirty seconds over Tokyo".  In 1944, a movie was made about the Tokyo raid.

The amazing thing about the movie was that they used actual B-25 Mitchell cockpits and interiors. It doesn't get any more authentic than that. In the age before CGI, the air to ground combat scenes explosions and scale-model of Tokyo were very well done.

"A typical B-25 takeoff uses about 2,000 feet of runway, Thompsen said. But the Hornet's deck allowed the planes as little as 300 feet to get airborne — otherwise they'd drop off the edge and crash into the ocean. Amazingly, the mission pilots had been trained to be able to take off as slowly as 75 mph with as little as 250 feet of runway." (Thom Patterson, CNN)

Brave men. History was made. Archival footage.

+1 for sharing Frankie, thank you!

Interesting allaround.  I still get emotional when I watch my Blood Brothers box set and see the real members footage.

"Press on. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not: Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education alone will not: The world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." --Calvin Coolidge
