VBS3 Realistic Repair for Vehicles

Realistic Repair for Vehicles

A new realistic repair system incorporating repair parts and their use in the repair of vehicles is now available. Repair parts are carried by repair trucks which have a configuration entry setting the maximum number of spare parts that they carry. Repair trucks that have repair parts available are able to repair other vehicles and these parts are used up during the repair process. Once configured for the new repair system, each vehicle will have a "repairValue", which represents the number of spare parts it takes for the vehicle to be fixed from a fully damaged state (80% damaged) to a fully repaired, no damage state.
•   Enable the new repair system with the Realistic Repair simulation setting option, see Simulation Settings.
•   For information on how to repair a damaged vehicle, see Repairing Vehicles below.

Vehicle Damage
Vehicles have several parts and systems (hitzones), that can be damaged independently an affect vehicle functionality. These are configured in class HitPoints in the vehicle's configuration.
The Vehicle HUD will show damage indicators for certain hitzones when it occurs. If the vehicle is undamaged, no indicators will appear.

A hitzone is assumed destroyed when it's damage is greater than 90%.
Types of HitZones:
•   Engine - if damaged, the vehicle performance will be restricted until it reaches a stage where it cannot move. When the engine is destroyed, the vehicle will burst into flames.
•   Wheels - if destroyed, the wheel doesn't work (vehicle driving is affected).
•   Tracks - if destroyed, the track doesn't move.
•   Turrets - if destroyed, the turret cannot be traversed, all sub-turrets are disabled and weapon cannot be fired.
•   Weapons - if destroyed, the weapon elevation cannot be changed, the weapon cannot be fired.
•   Windows - if destroyed, bullet proof windows will no longer be able to block shots (i.e., even bullet proof windows will break after taking sufficient damage).
•   Fuel - no effect on vehicle/does not affect the vehicle.
All damaged hitzones will be repaired when the whole vehicle is repaired.

AI Repair Capabilities
AI repair trucks automatically repair any damaged vehicle within a set repair area around them. The size of the repair area is set out in the vehicle's configuration files. The repairs should start immediately when the repaired vehicle is in range.
If the advanced repairs are enabled in simulation settings and both vehicles are configured with the advanced repair parameters, then repairs will only start after the vehicle to be repaired shuts down its engine.

Repairing Vehicles

Where realistic repairs are enabled in simulation options, use the following steps to repair damaged vehicles.

Repairs
Damaged vehicles can be repaired in VBS3 either using a repair truck (AI/player) or by repairing it instantly in the RTE via the context menu.
Under the old system, when a repair truck parks close enough to a damaged vehicle, repairs are initiated and usually take just a few seconds to complete.
Under the new system, a repair truck must still park close to the damaged vehicle and a player unit repairing the vehicle must be present. Repairs will take a longer time and consume repair parts.

Player controlled repair vehicle
To repair a damaged vehicle:
•   Move the repair truck close to a damaged vehicle.
•   Exit the repair truck.
•   Select "Enter repair mode". Repair Mode screen will appear listing spare parts available.

•   To start repairs, select "Repair ###" from the action menu, where ### is the damaged vehicle's description.
Player controlled damaged vehicle
To repair your damaged vehicle:
•   Move damaged vehicle close to the repair truck. The repair dialog will appear in the top left.
•   Turn the engine off.

•   Repairs will then start and a "Repairs in Progress" sign will appear along with an estimate of time remaining to fix the vehicle.

•   Once repairs are finished you can drive away.

Call for Support
If the AI controlled repair vehicle has been given a Support Waypoint, then you can call for it to come to the damaged vehicle.
•   To call for support, use radio 5 - 1 ("Call support").
•   The AI controlled repair vehicle should drive close to your position. If your vehicle is immobile, it will be repaired to the state where it can barely move.
•   Move your vehicle closer to the AI truck, repairs should commence. If advanced repairs are enabled, you will be required to shut down your engine.
•   After your vehicle is repaired, you need to radio the repair truck that the repairs are finished by using radio 5 - 1 - 6 "Done".
•   The repair vehicle will then return to the support waypoint to wait for further support requests.
