"Whaaaat?" was the word that came to my mind when watching the video. For me, the word "bizarre" doesn't even come close. Haha!

I think the animators got the tank threads physics right in 00:18 to 00:25.

Girls und Panzer (ガールズ&パンツァー Gāruzu ando Pantsā?) is a 2012 Japanese anime television series created by Actas. It depicts a competition between girls' high schools practicing tank warfare as a sport.

If I were a Manga anime producer, I would produce a series that depicted a bunch of gamer dudes scattered across the globe playing online multiplayer games, led by a leader named Disa and using their skills to save the world.

Ahaha. I think you nailed it Frankie.

What bug's me a big time is that how can this kind of school girl anime with 'tanks'... have more immersive and detailed tanks than many tank games or sims I know.

Here is a link to recent movie about this anime - warning this site looks a little bit Fishy, so be cautious not to download some crap from there. just watch the video in case if you're interested ;)

http://www.watchanimemovie.com/sub-dub/girls-und-panzer-der-film.html

And even Finnish Bt-42 is in the movie. You can see some epic Finnish fighting at 1 hour 20 min time. :)   - it is reason why I had to watch this movie. To see Finnish bt-42 in action and to hear legendary Säkkijärven polkka. :D

Here is hard rock version of it. :)

Btw Säkkijärven polkka has some epic history even on MILITARY USE. Im not kidding you. :D

During the Continuation War, the Finnish Army discovered that the retreating Soviets had scattered radio-controlled mines throughout the re-captured city of Viipuri. These mines were set off when a three-note chord was played on the frequency the radio was tuned to, causing three tuning forks (of which each mine had a unique combination) to vibrate at once.[citation needed] Once the Army and Yleisradio experts discovered how the mines worked, an Yleisradio mobile transmitter was brought to Viipuri, and Vesterinen's recording of the polka was played on the same frequencies the mines used. They played the song continuously from August 1941 until 2 February 1942, about 1,500 times.

Music for the Girls und Panzer movie/series. Whoa...serious stuff here and so many talented Japanese musicians!! This is no kiddies cartoon. It's a full-blown production with musical score and all. I hear some patriotic USA anthems. Them French horns are blasting away. At 6:10 you can see all the tracks that are recording simultaneously.

This is one serious anime!

How many different German tanks can you name which are shown in the stretch of 1:52 to 2:20?

And when was the last time you saw the German gunner's optics/sights in an anime?

Maybe the animators can branch off and start their own simulations studio, specialising in Tank simulation games for the PC, ala e-SimGames. Hahaha!!!

A Japanese Anime about German Tanks to the backdrop of an American battle hymn.. now I've seen it all.

At 0:38, 0:52 and 1:00-1:03 I can see a Sherman Firefly. Advance the flag of Dixie! Hurrah! Hurrah!
