"Flying a helicopter is a really visual experience" - said the fella

So get an Oculus Rift, so the computer delivers the visual experience:- and you probably also need non-centering helicopter controls like both Asid and I have, and then you can fly the Gazelle just like you can ride a bicycle.

Without proper controls - really hard;

With dedicated helo controls (cyclic particularly) - okay

Oculus Rift + dedicated helo controls - a breeze - you can make this baby do whatever you like - makes the Ka-50 and UH-1's feel like school buses compared to a Ferrari.  MI-8 like a massive truck.

Only my thoughts after many hours in the Gazelle in Oculus.

BTW - you need Voice attack http://www.voiceattack.com/ if you have Oculus so you can manage the keyboard inside VR.

Control set up is extremely important with Helos. A lot can be done with curves (exponential) and shaft length. This makes all the difference. A short shafted, sensitive joystick is great for a jet fighter but you will be over-controlling and have pilot induced oscillation in a helo.

However you do not need to spend lots of money to get a good setup.

This should make a difference to how the model behaves

DCS SA342changes in V1.54

•   Added SA342L model featuring Gun, Rockets, new camera with only daytime view, no NVG, rockets recoil to be corrected later
•   Added SA342L separated manual
•   Now both internal cockpit pilots bodies can be hidden using RShift+P key in sequence
•   Corrected Flight Model in turns
•   Corrected Flight Model in dives
•   Corrected HOT3 missile to explode as soon as wire is cut
•   Corrected Rotor torque behavior depending on speed
•   Corrected pitch and roll stick sensitivity
•   Corrected helicopter skids behavior at ground
•   Now helicopter can land in grass
•   Now external pilots bodies don't show when helicopter is set as uncontrolled in ME
•   External copilot body is still visible when helicopter is set as static in ME, will be fixed later
•   Corrected campaign missions to keep player current stage
•   Corrected COMB warning at Alarm panel and manual accordingly
•   Corrected Flares now reload when rearming
•   Corrected Engine sound not to change while in Torque test
•   Corrected Trimming with Magnetic brake
•   Corrected wool wire to correctly reflect wind direction
•   Corrected NADIR VENT parameter to display absolute direction the wind comes from
•   Corrected SAS authority during turns
