Beginners Bootcamp

This is a work in progress....

Documentation

Manual:
Default install directory: \eSim Games\SB Pro PE\docs\SBProManual

Key Chart:
Default install directory: \eSim Games\SB Pro PE\docs\PDF for print\KeyboardChart_EN

Add a new user:
•   Adding a new user = Main menu > Records
When you start Steel Beasts it has an existing user "Lt Default". You need to create a new user. This is important as you will build up a record of your time with Steel Beasts. This record includes, amongst others, the following:
•   Gunnery rating
•   Hit percentage
•   Major victories
•   etc...

In Single Player mode the friendly AI skill level is taken from your rating. So if you have a rating of 70 then the friendly AI will also have that rating. This does not apply to multi-player. You can increae your Gunnery rating by practicing on the Tank range. Pracice makes perfect.
•   Gunnery Practice = Main menu > Tank Range

Vehicle Choice:
Pick 1 vehicle and stick with it. This will make the learning process easier as many of the veicles have different systems which are quite complex. Popular choices are:
•   Leo2A5DK = Tank
•   M1A2Sep = Tank
•   M2A2 (ODS) = IFV

Once you have selected your vehicle then do a complete set of tutorials for that particular vehicle.
•   Leo2A5DK = 24 part tutorial
•   M1A2Sep = 21 part tutorial
•   M2A2 (ODS) = 15 part tutorial

Difficulty Settings
This will influence the quality of enemy forces, that is, the quality of their gunners and the likelihood of crews to spot you (=their reaction time).
•   Settings = Low/Medium/High

Realism Settings
This will on the lowest level activate a number of little helpers that will support you maintaining situational awareness, e.g. a crosshair to estimate where the gun is pointing when overriding the gunner in the M1, direction indicators for reference points, the laser tag marker on the map. These helpers will gradually disappear when increasing the realism level.
•   Settings = Low/Medium/High

Use the correct version

When you install SB you may have a shortcut on your desktop. This will start the 32Bit version. If you have a 64Bit OS it is advised to use the 64Bit exe.

Solutions:

1. Start SB from the "Start" button in Windows.
•   Programs
•   eSims Games
•   Steel Beasts Pro PE
•   Steel Beasts Pro PE (x64)

2. Replace the 32Bit shortcut with a 64Bit shortcut
•   Right click on the shortcut
•   Select "Open file location"
•   You will be taken to the "Release" folder
•   You will see 2 Application icons. "Steel Beasts Pro PE" &  "Steel Beasts Pro PE (x64)"
•   Right click on the "Steel Beasts Pro PE (x64)" and create a shortcut. Place it on your desktop.

The below image shows this is "Version 3.025 (x64)

I would suggest you delete the 32Bit shortcut to remove confusion.

The above is only advice for a 64Bit install

Tutorials

There are some good in-game tutorials to be found.
•   Start Steel Beasts
•   Main Menu Select "Tutorials"
•   Select your vehicle.

Some tutorials maybe generic. For example movement. You may wish to skip these if you have already completed them once.

Do not attempt to complete all tutorials for a particular vehicle in one sitting. The reason for this is that some are quite complex and you need to really understand them. This can take time.

Single player missions

There are many single player missions included with Steel Beasts. To access them:

Select "Offline Session" from the main menu (see below)

Offline session

Select "offline session" from the main menu

You will be taken to the "Select mission" screen

Select "My Scenarios" or click the radio button to the side

You will see this menu. Select "single"

This menu will appear. These are the single player missions on your PC. Select 1. Then press "open on the bottom left.

You will now see this screen. You must select the profile you wish to run. If you want the score from this mission to be added to your accumulating record (your use name) then select it here. However if you are just testing the mission and do not want any negative impact on your profile then select "LT Default". Select "OK"

Tank Range

You can practice your gunnery skills as often as you want.
•   Choose "Tank Range" from the "Main menu".
•   Choose a vehicle (Not all vehicles are included)
•   You will appear inside the vehicle in the gunners position
•   You must destroy 10 vehicles as fast as you can.
•   You can NOT drive the vehicle
•   The TC will designate targets
•   Mission ends when all targets are destroyed.
•   The enemy do NOT fire back

Results are published at the end of the mission.
•   Hit percentage
•   Average time to kill
•   Etc.

Your score is given at the end of the session and goes to your "rating". Remember the profile you added earlier? You can go back as many times as you wish. If you get a bad score then do not worry as only your highest score is retained.

Instant Action
•   Choose "Instant Action" from the main menu
•   Choose a vehicle (Not all vehicles are included)
•   You will appear in the gunners position.
•   The enemy will keep on coming.
•   You cannot use the "F8" view.

This is meant for practice. You can practice using the different positions within the vehicle as well as the terrain.

Voice/Comms setup

It is recommended NOT to use "voice activated" in TeamSpeak.

Ideally Have only Teamspeak routed to your headphones and the other sounds (arty, engine etc) routed to your main speakers.

It is very important during multiplayer sessions that you can hear your team mates clearly.
