Joining a Multiplayer session
« on: January 06, 2015, 05:37:22 PM »
This post is made to help people Join a Multiplayer session in Steel Beasts

Lets start at the "Main Menu"

Select "Network Session"

This screen will appear. On the left make sure you have "client" selected. This is the default setting. Clicking on "client" changes it to "Host". Enter the I.P. address in the "Host's IP Address" box. A tip here is you can copy the IP from TeamSpeak. Then click inside the box where you enter the IP and press "control + v" keys to paste the ip in place. Make sure you do not have a gap at the front of the ip address as this will not allow you to join the session. When ready hit "Go"

You will see this screen next. If all is well then you will see the session name in the box. Here it is "Asid's session (1/8)". The 1/8 refers to the number of people already in the session. If something has gone wrong then you will see the next screen.

"Looking for sessions" means there is no session. There can be a number of reasons for this.
1. The host has not launched the game correctly
2. You entered the wrong/invalid ip address.
3. You have a port forwarding issue. This has been fixed if you are using V3.023 and above if you are a client.
4. A firewall may be blocking the connection.

Here we see the session. We can continue by selecting "Join"

We are now taken to the "assembly area". On the right handside is a list of the people who have joined the session. Two in this case.

On the left here we select the position/vehicle we want to take

Here you have chosen the "TC" position (notice your name turns purple when a position is selected). This is the position you would choose if you are the only person within the vehicle. You can then easily move between positions within the session.. Other positions are available at this stage such as:
1. Gunner
2. Driver
3. Observer (if you just want to watch and not participate).
This is where a multi-crew would be setup. Example would be Player1 is the TC and Asid is the Gunner. You can also join a vehicle as part of the crew in game.
The option to "Let others enter this vehicle" does exactly that. So in a session someone could jump in as your gunner as you have opened the other positions up to anyone in the session.

When you are ready to proceed press the "No" next to "Ready" it will change to "Yes"

When everyone is "Ready" the Host will launch the session. DO NOT "Alt + Tab" at this point as you could crash out of the session. If you get a "windows not responding" error then please just be patient. This is normal in windows 8.

When you have successfully loaded the session then you will see this screen which is the brief for the mission. You can select the "terrain" view and set other options here. The CO will most likely explain the mission and possibly draw grphics on the map which you will see. When you are ready to proceed then hit the green  "Ready" button which will dissapear.

When everyone in the session is ready then the "All participants are ready" message will flash and the Host will know to start the mission.

You will get a countdown from 10 seconds to the mission start... get ready.

You should now be in the live mission. In our example we selected the TC position and this is the first thing we see.

When the mission ends you will see this screen. It will give you the basic stats for the mission as well as an AAR tool in the bottom left which allows you to closely examine the mission.

When you are done and want to quit you will hit the red "Quit" button in the top right and you will be presented with the choice to "Save AAR". If you save it now you can share it with others or load it up later for analysis. A tip here is to compress the AAR file after you have used it with some programm like WinZip or Winrar. It will compress to approx 1/10th of its original size. The AAR is found in the "C:\Users\*\Documents\eSim Games\Steel Beasts\AAR" folder where "*" denotes your pc name. (windows 8)

When we have quit the session we will be returned to the lobby if the hiost is still there.
