Thanks for the update!

I've been sinking my teeth into a 2016 scenario of a CVBG attacking Hainan Island in the South China Sea, given the recent hullabaloo about the Spratly  Islands.

Command v1.08 Release Candidate 1 (Build 678.10)

Download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B205vpZC1pGmdF8wN3ZuaF91MU0/view?usp=sharing

How to install: Simply download from link and unzip to main Command installation folder. Answer "Yes" to any overwrite requests. Backup your current Command.exe, just in case.

v1.08 Release Notes (changes from v1.07/B678)
======================================================

MAJOR NEW FEATURES:
--------------------

* New weapon type: Anti-torpedo torpedoes and related torpedo-warning systems. (The player can fire these manually but by default the AI handles them just like with anti-missile weapons)

* New weapon type: Enhanced fragmentation warhead (aka "superfrag"). Examples: M30A2 MLRS Alternate Warhead, CBU-107 PAW.

* New weapon type: Contact explosive - sabotage & suicide subtypes. Sabotage allows simulating e.g. Tanya blowing a radar station (obligatory Red Alert reference: check). Suicide explosive allows modelling kamikaze units (e.g. the attack on USS Cole).

* New "ship" type: Mobile Offshore Base (aka "Battle Island"). Contrary to aircraft carriers, a MOB can also operate land-based aircraft (e.g. large transports).

* Players can now observe the engagement arcs of a unit mount. To do so, bring up a unit's "Weapons" window and click-select the "Show Arcs" checkbox for the desired mount or any weapon on that mount. Only one mount's arc is displayed at a time (this is deliberate). The arc is displayed only as long as the weapons window is visible.

* The manual weapon allocation window can (optionally, via a checkbox) present to the player the "soft" restrictions (WRA/WCS/other doctrine settings) which prevent a unit from automatically using a weapon on a given target even though the "hard" restrictions (physically able etc.) are met. The player can of course override the soft restrictions and fire manually.

* Significant speed improvement on large scenarios.

* Uncertainty areas for long-range passive detections (SOSUS, ESM etc.) are more accurate and reliable.

* Map tweak: A targeting vector turns yellow when the targeting unit is not cleared to engage the target (WCS etc.), and green when it is.

* Added "Reset All Side Scores" button on Losses & Expenditures window.

* The coast/borders line fades out as the camera zooms in on the terrain (similar to Google Earth).

* Subs always recharge their batteries when at periscope depth or shallower. They are also smarter about not running after targets they have no chance of catching up, and very their approach speed against viable targets more intelligently.

* Snap-up/down limits are now taken into account for AAW guided weapons.

* Side-firing gunships (e.g. AC-130) now manouver properly to place their targets on their weapons' line of fire.

* UNREP is performed at a realistic pace (1 item every 2 minutes per connecting line), and ships being replenished do not overload their first compatible weapon mount.

* Aircraft body IR signatures are now affected by speed (mainly affects supercruising and high-supersonic aircraft like F-22, SR-71 etc.)

* New side-level option (editable on "Edit Sides" window): Can Auto-track civilians. When enabled, the selected side automatically detects and tracks civilian/commercial units. This simulates access to publicly available traffic sources like AIS, and can be handy for piracy & law-enforcement scenarios.

* Various tweaks to mission editor UI.

* Numerous tweaks to damage modelling related to light-caliber, very high-ROF automatic weapons.

* Mechanical-scan radars (with the exception of ICWI-capable sets) cannot perform volume scan while they are providing SARH illumination for missiles. So e.g. once a fighter launches a Sparrow at a target it becomes radar-blind to any other contact while it is guiding the weapon. This can severely reduce situational awareness if the fighter is not backed-up by other friendly radars. (It also makes possible co-operative "you draw missile fire and I'll flank and stab him" tactics). Phased-array or ICWI-capable radars do not have this limitation.

* Includes updated & rebuilt versions of all official scenarios.

* Includes a new series of import files by Mike.

* Includes the latest versions of the DB3000 and CWDB databases.

The rest of the list is to long to post here....

BAE Systems signs agreement to use Command

It is now official. BAE Systems is using Command for professional purposes.

A crucial appreciation of these efforts is now coming from experts at defense, security and aerospace multinational BAE Systems. In particular, real time wargame Command: Modern Air/Naval Operationshas been chosen to start a collaboration with Slitherine and its development partners.

News of this deal was first circulated during the HoW-15 opening address, and since then we have received a lot of questions on the details of the deal. Naturally there is a limit to what we can divulge due to the sensitive nature of the defense sector, but we can say that BAE’s end users have been delighted with their experience on using Command for their needs and are looking forward to making the most of it with the cooperation of the WarfareSims staff.

Command has been recently been made available officially for professional use, and a collaboration with a top-tier defense contractor right out of the gate further strengthens the simulation’s position in the demanding professional gaming & analysis arena.

CMANO has been updated to version 1.08!

This is a very huge update (over 20 pages!) with new features, fixes, additions and the databse completely incremented!

Some of the highlights of the new free update:
* New toys to try out: Anti-torpedo torpedoes and related torpedo-warning systems, new warhead types such as "superfrags", new weapon types such as "Contact explosive" (for the discerning saboteur or suicide terrorist), a brand-new ship type (Mobile Offshore Base (aka "Battle Island")), and more.

* User interface enhancements: Players can now observe the engagement arcs of a unit mount, permission-dependent color of targeting vectors, coastline/border fade-out on zoom (as in GE), the manual weapon allocation window can present to the player the "soft" restrictions (WRA/WCS/other doctrine settings), various tweaks to mission editor UI. etc.

* Simulation improvements: Major speed boost on large scenarios, more accurate uncertainty areas for long-range passive detections (SOSUS, ESM etc.), reliable sub battery recharge, improved sub-captain AI on chasing after unreachable targets, snap-up/down limits for AAW guided weapons, side-firing gunships (e.g. AC-130) now manouvering properly, more realistic UNREP transfer rates, speed-dependent aircraft IR signatures (that supercruise may now really cost you if the enemy has decent IRSTs), tweaks to damage modelling related to light-caliber automatic weapons, realistic "no scan while painting" limitation on older mechanical radars, and more.

* Scenario Editor improvements: "Can Auto-track civilians" side-level ability, Lua speed enhancements and more.

* Updated & rebuilt versions of all official scenarios, plus a new scenario addition to the official-bundled scenarios (Pyrpolitis 1-14, from the community scenario pack).

A brand-new series of tutorial videos by Baloogan:

But the changelog is very long so be sure to check it here:

Twelve new Command scenarios available

Terrorist attacks, WW3 convoys, Saudi onslaught and Hormuz campaigns:

Miguel Molina has posted a new revision of the community scenario pack, the compendium of Command scenarios crafted by the user community. The new release contains twelve brand-new scenarios:

WEC Davos Attacked by Terrorists, 2016: The World Economic Forum (WEC) is hosted every year in Davos, Switzerland, and attended by numerous political, diplomatic and industry leaders. This year, anonymous threats of a terrorist attack on the event have prompted heavier-than-usual security measures by the local authorities, including the Swiss police and army as well as support by Austrian and NATO air forces.
Black Tiger I, 2015: The last remnants of USMC Afghanistan veterans are returning to CONUS and transiting the straits of Hormuz, along with the Carl Vinson CSG. But a covertly Russia-backed Iran is determined not to allow safe passage.
Black Tiger II, 2015: Earlier today, a section of Superhornets was forced to intercept and drive off Iranian MiGs that flew out over Gulf waters to harrass and ‘thump’ a maritime patrol plane. As the excitement of the morning fades and night falls, there are growing indications that fresh trouble may be brewing…
Black Tiger III, 2015: In the past two days, several incidents have increased tensions to the boiling point. Iranian fighters have harrassed U.S. maritime patrol aircraft and flown aggressively in the airspace surrounding the two naval groups. Even worse, several missile-armed gunboats fought a surface action against the 5th Fleet on the night of February 6th. Although Iran claims that the boats were manned by Al Quaeda insurgents and that they had nothing to do with the incident, intelligence sources believe the craft involved were actually Iranian naval units flying under false colors, and the diplomatic fallout hasn’t stopped yet. This afternoon, Carrier Strike Group 3 will stand on station just west of the Strait of Hormuz, watching tensely as the Tarawa group makes the transit.
Black Tiger IV, 2015: In the past two days, several incidents have increased tensions to the boiling point. Today the USS Carl Vinson and her escorts plan to transit the strait behind their amphibious group, but they have no idea the horror that awaits them. For decades, it has been nothing more than a respect for the strength of the United States that has kept the Strait of Hormuz open to the world. With Iran on the brink of becoming a nuclear power and with the windfall of top line military equipment they have obtained, the time has come for the regional balance of power to shift decisively. The Iranians are planning to hand the United States Navy the most crushing defeat it has ever seen, seize control of the Persian Gulf – and hold it.
Black Tiger V, 2015: Bolstered by a new secret alliance with Russia and the influx of a wealth of modern aircraft and weapons systems, the Iranians have executed their plans to become a nuclear power and seize permanent control of the Persian Gulf region. A surprise attack on US ships transiting the Hormuz has resulted in heavy casualties and effective blocking of the straits. Iran capitalyzed on the ensuing confusion and temporary paralysis to successfully test its first nuclear weapon and declare itself a nuclear power. Now the U.S. Navy plans to carry out an operation to re-open the straits and restore freedom of navigation in the Persian Gulf. For this operation, a couple of USN late Cold War projects, the F-14E Tomcat 21 and the AIM-152A AAAM missile (the replacement for the Phoenix) are coming out of the mothballs.
Trans-Atlantic Convoy Duty, 1985: WWIII has broken out in Europe with the classic Soviet thrust through the Fulda Gap. Unfortunately, the Soviets have also managed to take Iceland, taking effective control of the GIUK gap and leaving the northern convoy routes exposed and vulnerable. Defend the convoy and your battle group from Soviet attack.
Facing the Bear (The War That Never Was), 1989: Northern Norway may have been the most important theater in the world if the Cold War ever went hot. US reinforcements had to be shipped across the Atlantic in convoys of slow transports vulnerable to Soviet submarines and long-range naval aviation assets. The outcomes of the titanic battles in Germany were completely dependent upon a much smaller battle that would have unfolded in a sparsely-populated, harsh Nordic environment. This scenario, playable from the Soviet side, tries to capture the first stage of that battle.
Comte De Grasse’s Squadron, 1988: World War III has broken out. Limited-scale chemical and tactical-nuclear exchanges have been performed, but so far confined strictly to the Central Front and at sea. During these first few critical days of the war, one of the goals of the American navy is to secure the vital sea lanes of the Atlantic so that convoys will be able to resupply NATO forces in the coming weeks. As part of this effort, a task force centered around the American destroyer Comte de Grasse has been assigned to patrol the waters near the Azores.
Uncle Mark’s Tutorials #3 – Yorktown in the Gulf of Sidra, 1985: Libya has long made the claim that the entire Gulf of Sidra is its territorial waters, as opposed to the normal 12-mile limit prescribed under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The US is sending a message by deliberately moving its ships through what the rest of the world considers international waters. This time the Aegis cruiser Yorktown, damaged from a recent explosion but still battle-worthy, has drawn the lot.
Kingdom Come, 2018: Following an abortive assassination attempt on the King of Saudi Arabia, compelling links between the assassins and the Egyptian national intelligence agency, the Mukhabarat, quickly came to light. In the ensuing furor, diplomatic attempts to resolve the crisis between the two countries failed as each side dug in their heels. The Saudis would tolerate nothing less than having the responsible parties delivered to them immediately, while the Egyptians were still reeling from the realization that the Mukhabarat had initiated such an outrage without official sanction – but to save face would not admit so. With only hours to go before the deadline of the Saudi’s ultimatum, the Egyptians came to the conclusion, under the circumstances, that war was the more tenable option. The Kingdom would oblige.
Sinking A Battlewagon, 1990: With the construction of the Kirov-class battlecruisers, the US Navy once again faces armored, large enemy combatants. This experiment, with an Iowa as the target, tests the effectiveness of submarine weapons against such targets.

As always, the community scenario pack is available for download at the WarfareSims download section: http://www.warfaresims.com/?page_id=1876

Unzip to your existing CMANO installation folder. (Backup your current Command.exe just in case)

IMPORTANT NOTE:   Because of changes in the way that the program checks for a valid license, if you have not actually installed Command on your current OS (e.g. re-installed the OS after installing Command or copied the entire installation folder from another PC etc.) you may get an "insufficient license" warning when attempting to load a scenario. If this is the case then re-install Command. If the problem persists after a proper installation please contact us immediately through PM/email. Thanks!

Release Notes (changes since v1.08 - B678.18)

Major new features:
--------------------------

* New Lua action: Change the side of a unit

* New Lua action: Explode a warhead.

* New event condition: "Scenario Has Started". Useful for scripting actions that you want to happen only at the very beginning of a scenario (e.g randomizing start positions).

* Includes an updated version of the scenario "The Four Horsemen" with the scen-on-load issue fixed.

* Includes 3 new tutorial scenarios by Mark Gellis (from the "Uncle Mark's Tutorials" series).

* Massive performance increases (as in up to over 10x faster) under certain "heavy" setups such as very complex radar/ECM interactions and thousands of AI-busy units.

* Significant speed improvement in scenarios with numerous underwater biological entities (whales, fish etc.)

* New map feature: Placenames (countries, major cities and major geographical elements). It can be enabled/disabled through the "Game Options" window and is persisted like other map visibility options.

* New map feature: You can select to display either all detected contact emissions or only the ones associated with weapon fire control (helps reduce clutter when displaying emissions from all contacts)

* New major weapon feature: Nuclear detonations now produce a broadband EMP wave.

a) Effects radius & intensity: The radius is independent of yield and hinges mostly on LOS and whether the detonation is within the atmosphere, in the stratosphere or in near/outer space.
* In the atmosphere: The radiation is absorbed quite heavily by the atmosphere and intensity falls linearly with distance. Maximum range is a bit longer than maximum blast range.
* In the stratosphere: Part of the energy escapes to space while another part is trapped on the troposphere upper layer, forming an "EMP blanket". Absorption is much less severe so the max range is much larger.
* Near/outer space: All the energy headed towards earth is refracted through the atmosphere and forms a very intense EMP blanket of near-uniform intensity. Max effects range can be as far as 1500nm from ground zero with high intensity. (This is why most EMP-attack scenarios in the Cold War assumed this profile. See also "GoldenEye").

b) System effects: As currently implemented only platform sensors are vulnerable to damage.
Factors affecting damage probability:
* Pulse intensity - see above.
* Operating status: Sensors that are turned off can be affected but much less likely
* Tech generation: Early 60s and earlier (vacuum tubes) are the most resistant, late 60s (first transistors and solid states) are more vulnerable, late 70s (VLSI) more so, and from late 80s (COTS) onwards it's a party.

CMANO v1.09 Release Candidate 3 (Build 737)

Download: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B205vpZC1pGmTVRvQXg4Y3p2M0U/view?usp=sharing

Thanks!

Fixed/Added:
------------------------
* New map feature: Day & Night lighting of the Earth (ON by default). It can be enabled/disabled through the "View" menu and is persisted per-side as part of the map view options.

* FIXED: Out-of-memory error causes "red X of doom" on main map <---- NEED CONFIRMATION ON THIS!
